vacuum bagging repairs?

Could someone give me instructions or tell me where I can find Instructions on vacuum bagging repairs. My goal is to make my repairs a lot neater. I think I have all the equipment to do small things. I have:

this yellow tape (kind of like tar),

a couple square feet of a clear plastic sheet,

A couple square feet of an opaque plastic sheet,

some felt like material,

vacuum pump,

fiberglass and polyester resin.

Is this everything I need? I’ve got a repair job that I think would be perfect to practice on. The board has a big ding/dent on the bottom that was very poorly repaired. I was going to route out the damaged area, cut a piece of foam to size and then vacuum bag some glass on top.

Hello Fahl-

Go to The Board Lady - and look around. There is a page on ‘advanced soft deck repair’ that may inspire you.

Also search for ‘bag’ and ‘bagging’ and ‘vac’ here. Lots to be learned ‘google-ing’ and ‘youtube-ing’ also.

You will need to know what your materials are and where to use them in the stack-up. The ‘color’ is not good enough to identify them.

Project in the bag is a cover for a roof vent on an old RV with a hot-wired sacrificial EPS plug underneath.

Stackup (bottom to top): bag, support board, plug (spackled, sealed, coated with PVA release), glass and resin, perf ply, breather all the way to vacuum port, and bag sealed with mastic. No peel ply this time.

Also,  practice on some other stuff first before the board. First time out I sucked too much resin out of the lamination.

Let us know how it goes.

Im doing some no frills diy vac next week ill send you the link .

No pump neded 350 pounds of suction

Double sided tape.  You know;  The gooey grey or white stuff that the paper peels off of.  Lowel

Search on low tech vacuum bagging.  There is a thread about using an aquarium pump with the diaphragm reversed for small repairs.

All the best

Good grief - for a second I thought you might be trying to vacuum bag a shell over an inflatable air mat!

Would that really work John? Just kidding, a couple more pics…
