OK forgive my ignorance…brand new swaylocker, almost brand new shaper…
I have had thoughts of adding a thin bamboo veneer to the deck of a shaped blank (I would assume using some resin/bonding agent)
Is this what the VACUUM BAGGING process is for…im assuming it allows even pressure to be applied to the entire deck surface to allow correct all over bonding of the bamboo to the foam.
This is just a thought at this stage so any advice would be great…being in australia, im not yet even sure of being able to access a bamboo veneer…
if you live in Australia and can’t find bamboo I’d try and hunt down some Paulownia which is a much better choice if you can get it.
you don’t need a bag
some stretch wrap and strapping tape or some heat shrink wrap film and strapping tape will do in a pinch depending on the density of the core especially if its a stringered poly blank you’re starting off with. you can get pretty damn close with out the investment of a bagging system for a one off or two…
You can get a huge range of veneers from suppliers. Lots of fabric backed bamboo out of China that’s easy to work with and some great eucalypt that I’m trying next (they’ll donlt sell the fancy stuff in leaves (individual sheets) unless they are leftovers in a the box). Drop a line if you’re Melbourne way.
