Vector Net Install

Im about to use Vector Net for the first time. My plan is to laminate the bottom first, and then lay the Vector Net on the full length of the deck. With about 8 ozs of S Glass on top of that. Does this sound appropriate.

Thanks much!

Nate

My 2 cents…

From what I know and do

Yeah that’ll work.

Cut lap ( on deck)?

As that would help IF you are not lapping the rails with the Vector net

and doing a deck type patch.

The vector net is:

Hard to cut.

Worse to cut lap.

And moves around (EZ with the squigge pressure).

Use light spray glue on the foam prior to in the critical areas.

The adhesive will let go once saturated with resin.

Go EZ and plan ahead.

Spray glue with wax paper to mold.

Note filler coat eats up the weight difference.

Single layer of 8oz.???

I use 2- 4oz. actually stronger given the weight to strength ratio.

If you want a slightly stiffer skin put net between your glass layers or go with 3 layers of sglass without vectornet. Better for almost everything except techy look and commercial purpose.

I did that sick fish…Just what you said… And I like what MattWho does…and I like Lemat but he’s so far ahead of me on a tech level it’s hard to compare…

Out side the box but still Low Tech. Lam the deck first. Vector net on the foam…6 ounce cloth on top of that…6 ounce or 4 ounce for the bottom…when you sand you never hit Vector net because it’s under the cloth…I cut the Vector net at the apex of the rail… not a cut lap…took three boards to get to that…I’m not pro…think about it…and I only did Vector Net because I think it looks cool…think about that too

Sickfish, you said in the other thread this is your 4th board. I would say you are getting ahead of yourself. You are proposing 2x4oz S-Glass AND a full-deck of Vector net. What are you trying to accomplish? 2x4 S deck will be plenty strong without Vector net. Check the old Vector Net thread and you can also see that many feel Vector Net is best served on the bottom of the board, if anything. So if you are DEAD SET on using the Vector Net, I would do it on the bottom, under the single 4 S. But honestly if I were you I’d just focus on doing a nice 2x4 S deck and 1x4 S bottom. You’ll have plenty of challenge getting that to come out clean.

You are right. Im probably gonna hold off. I tried to cut it tonite and that shit is a challenge to say the least. I am in Afghanistan deployed and finding adequate tools has proved fairly difficult. I glassed the bottom tonite. Take a look.

Im skipping over everything else, and asking this…

Deployed in Afghanistan? and building boards in the middle of a landlocked mountainous desert??

Game over. you win on most difficult shaper award. Congrats to you sir, and thank you for your service.

Are you able to surf these anywhere? or whats the plan?

I second that, I noticed you posting before and think you are a champion, and most definately,  you win.

I live in Florida. I get good waves in the fall and winter, but not great ones. So I found some decent sheers and said what the hell on the Vector Net. Take a look.

Nailed it !

Seriously… what those other guys said about above and beyond. Unbelievable!!
