I just heard today that dale Velzy has terminal cancer…how very sad. There is a whole generation of legends and craftsmen getting near the end…keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I think when i was a kid, the coolest pic of a surfer was the one of Dale with that balsa V-fin, sleeves rolled up high on his shirt with those bad-ass sea horse tattoos on his forearms. The guy was punk rock back in the 50’s.
anyway…a sad day.
sadness is not an option
he’s takin the therapies
who knows about the effect of these therapies
we are/ were privliged to hear the stories
denial is a valuable tool
he lives as he has lived in my life
in a remote reality effecting my thoughts and actions
yet not my daily charge and responsibility
we may feel saddness yet that same sadness is often for our own loss of a mirror image to vicariously live out the fantastic adventures endured by Velzy in real life
truely a varied and rich life
