first post here… and was hoping to get some feedback or experienced tips… I’m shaping a 6’3" fish and am considering a paperbacked veneer laminated to the deck for both decoration and structure… i was hoping to only use one layer of 5 oz. glass over the veneer.
was going to epoxy the veneer to the blank in a vacuum bag ( woodworking type) to get good adhesion to the blank.
has anyone done this? any tips or advice would be killer. check the photo… ( the oak veneer is for templating only and was probably going to get fancy with a sheet of zebra wood)
one 5 oz would be suficiant over the veneer but will only give you two wraps around the rails
but may I suggest a 5oz bottom also
cut lap the bottom glass at the wood perimiter
sand the wood edge down to the glass (you may even want to sand off the backing around the perimiter of the veneer before bagging this will help to mate with the glass
You may need to do a double sand coat on the cut lap line
yes will be using epoxy and to be clear on process :
bag veneer to blank w/epoxy
lam bottom and cut to wood edge ( sand as needed)
3 lam top.
kinda what i was thinking… but just wanted to hear it from someone else… i to was worried about only two layers on the rail… and the tail… maybe two layers on top is good? adding patches would be a nightmare.
