Versa Plane 653 ??

I have a couple questions on these old school skill 100 like planers…

  1. Blades are harder to find each day, anyone know of hookup or someone who has the blade(s)?

  2. Do they make a shaping barrel? if blades are in such limited production?

  3. Anyone have a picture or setup of a hose/dust attachment to these? or a custom made exhaust port?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

For spare parts call Dick Jarmin (586) 463-5556, supposedly he has a whole store room of Porter Cable parts and is reasonable with his price.

I got a blade from him in Feb. 2009.

Thanks Uncled, I made the call, now its just a waiting game. As for the chute, if I can make something out of fiberglass, ill give it a shot, and post the pictures up on here. Still no answer to why they never made a shaping barrel for this machine.

Stan Pleskunas made some “barrels” for the 653. I used one for awhile. We cut the tops off a couple of em and made a vacuum attachment. Due to the heavyweight of the tool with the added push power needed to offset  the vacuum system AND the extra resistance of the barrel I gave it up. Becker used barrels and said he liked em. He modified the gears I think to offset the resistance. Blades are out there. You can resharpen the steel ones and if you only use it to shape with they last a long time.
