Version of a Firewire Cornice

Bit more time in shed. Details later.

Makes sense with the edge. They are pretty strong seem to be holding up in eps with keels. More testing required.
Looking forward to a ride report.

Done need to surf more to do a ride report.

Epic mate, I like it!!! (and the colour)…I meant to ask; did you have any issues about the rear quad boxes going in that far out on the rail?..Ive been looking at mine and thinking that the box is not going to have a great deal of foam to sit in!!.. I was also thinking of pulling the quads inward about 10mm…

No issues but I’m not sure about how futures are for depth.

Try the rears in a bit. See what happens. Haven’t surfed it as a quad yet.

Btw it’s so epic to see my file and design in your hands…

I say design but maybe version is a better term.

Ha yes…some minor tweaks here and there to the original file (length…nose rocker etc.) but if it works I can use that as a base to improve. I’m already thinking of something fatter in the nose !!

I'll post more when I finish it...soon hopefully

Well I surfed it this morning in some nice shaped clean but weak beach breaks and I have to say it’s bloody awesome.

Speed super quick off the mark, and then was able to set the rail and hold the turn all the way around, came around with so much speed i came off the foam, but it suprised me and I probably looked a little gumby but it was great.

What did you change, what dims?

Looks great!

I have the Firewire Cornice and it is the best board I’ve ever had.

I’m looking forward to hearing how you like yours after some more surfs.

SK8,

I dropped it down to 5’3", kept the width proportional, and took an inch out of the nose rocker to flatten it out up front a bit.The junk we get around here doesn’t require that much rocker and I’m after a bit more speed so we will see how that compromise will work out. I’m going to be kiting with this one so, I’m hoping it’s gonna light my ass on fire!!..If it doesn’t I will then definitely see where the changes will be required on the next build(s) to get something that works… I’m already thinking of extending the step farther along the rail as she is a bit of a fatty for kiting and all that volume could be a hindrance but we will see I guess.

Oh, I pulled the rear quads in to 115mm off the center line as opposed to the 127mm on the drawing…I was a little worried about the Futures busting through the deck… so again choices choices !!

Hey ho was a good, interesting build…and as ever…I learned loads and my glassing with carbon has come on heeaps so i’m happy. I just wish I was better at Shape 3D (or had more patience).

I’ll keep ya posted

Have surfed it a bunch more times now and i’m very impressed. Unfortunately we are in one of the longest spells of absolute flat dribble i have experienced in quite a few years. So the waves i have surfed have not been over chest high.

But if you can get three turns in on a 1-2 foot wave thats sloppy onshore dribble you must be doing ok.

Great job mate!
I’m trying to figure out what makes it work.
Do you think the side cut is really important? Or do you think the sharp tail is what’s making it work? Or something else?

The reason I ask is that I thought the reason for my last magic board (pig simmons) was foil but maybe it was the wide point being closer to the tail.

Can you compare with a wide point back board?? (pig outline)

Same board but without the bulge at the nose might be exactly the same!

If you’re not sure… Then maybe I have to copy your file and glass one identical but without the nose bulge and side cuts… But of course it’s good to ask as that’s a lot easier!

Haven’t surfed in in enough range of conditions yet, search my other build threads. one that says something about version of blending curves nug b is a wide tail. and another one that’s called the sunny comfort.

Few shots from the Sk8-nice
Got a nice long barrel later on this session but the battery was flat.

Are you using Robin Mairs fins in The Gear Box system? If so what fins are you using?

Yes
hanalei fins
the front ones look like wing tips QBS 2 or something and the rears look like hockey sticks.
but i have used set of normal thrusters that go really good in it, kinda negates the wider tail a bit.

Here is a pic of them one is the rears in another board

I’m posting here cause the side cut thread is hectic. This is my thread about the boards I make. They just happen to have a side cut rail.
If you pay attention you would know I’m not all about side cut.

Buuuutttt…

Started tweeking my peanut file, to make a similar board to a “short game” gunna call it the “weenut”
Incorporate the rocker from my other groveller that goes un real.

Hey Sk8
Wondering how you did that color work. Looks like its just a foam stain. I can accept that, but how did you get those little blue crosshatching lines on there? Is that some sort of netting like vector net, or did you draw them on…
Just an idiot who likes to ask questions. Thanks for your time and your thread.

Keeping my eye on the “Weenut” project. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

lol!!!
