Check out The Arts Fund’s surf-inspired exhibit of paintings and photographs featuring surfboards and skateboards. The exhibit features paintings by Hank Pitcher, Davey Miller, Ken Auster, Norm Daniels and Ron Anderson, and photographs by Bob Barbour, Scott Starr, Joe Curren, Amy Kumler and Ryan Cardone. The three-dimensional surf art includes the surfboard itself with “Da Board,” a beautiful balsa classic by Reynolds Yater, Steve Brom’s “Retro Fish,” a 1970s era Chuck Dent, the first Morey Pope original “Bisect” and a classic Con Surfboard Steve Bigler model. The Stanley Reef Foundation is presenting The Artificial Reef Simulator by founder Gary Ross, and also featured are balsa wood pieces by Rod Ozborne, vintage skateboards, and contemporary art by C. J. Nelson. The Arts Fund created the exhibit with Aquanauts curator Vince Felix, a Ventura local who works with Clyde Beatty Jr. and Wayne Rich in Santa Barbara, and competes professionally in regional and international longboard tours. Mr. Felix has a history of building surfboards, which he learned while living in Santa Cruz, and fighting wildland fires with the U.S. Forest Service. A reception honoring the exhibition happens from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Arts Fund Gallery, 205C Santa Barbara St., and will feature a sneak preview of Stylus, a new longboard video by Black 29 Productions, plus a D. J. , live music, and refreshments. The exhibit runs through Sunday. Call 965-7321.
