vintage bonzer

Thought you might enjoy seeing this since there has been so much interest in bonzers lately. It is a Rick Surfboards model that looks very similar to the Bing of the same era. There was no mention of Rick bonzers in the TSJ article so maybe some of you may be able to fill me in on the history of this. Dimensions are 6’ 8.5" x 14.5"(n) x 20.25"(m) x 13.o"(t) x 3.0" thickness.

A friend has a Bing similar to this except that it is an east coast model. The primary diffference being that the concaves are not as long. They start at about the point where the constriction is on the rick and they are not quite as deep.

Phil Becker (Becker Surfboards) was the lead shaper

at Rick Surfboards(Hermosa Beach)for many years.

The Bonzer was never patented by the Campbell Bros.

Hence, anyone could make one.

Licensing on the other hand says that no one can

make one and have ‘Bonzer’ or ‘Bing’ labels on it.

I doubt that this board has a history unless

Elvis posed with it in one of his Beach Movies.
