Vintage Hansen Superlight

I just picked up a vintage 9’ Hansen Superlight. Hoping someone could tell me who the shaper was. On each side of the serial number is a squiggle or could be a sideways “S”. Sure would appreciate any help.

Your board was shaped by Richard Templin.

Bill, thanks a lot for the info. I really appreciate it. Its awesome knowing who actually put the planer to the foam on my Superlight. Bob

Bob.

If you google ‘‘the shapers tree’’, you will find Richard listed in there. Richard started shaping at Hansens in 1966 or 1967, when Dwayne Brown left to shape Model A boards, at Surfboards Hawaii. I don’t know if shapers tree still show him as a 70’s shaper, but he’s a 60’s guy. He came on board with me, as a shaper in 1969, when I opened Surf Systems. Richard was among the best shapers of the day.

A family had moved into their home a few years ago and this board was hanging on the wall in the garage when they moved in. They got tired of looking at it, they said, so they put it up for sale at a very reasonable price. Its in great shape, just tanned.
