Anyone know what the drawbacks of using vinyl stickers as laminate? My friend has a 24" vinyl cutter and we plan on using them as laminate or as pin strippings for complex designs. I realize that the greater the area the more likely it could de-laminate, but if kept in a minimum, will it work?
I don’t think they will work…I just bought a bunch of vinyl for a vac bag, and one of the important requirements of bag material is that it not stick to the work…for the small stuff, a test is in order…My guess is that as soon as a sharp impact hits whatever’s over the vinyl, the lam will separate, at least looking different, and probably weaker too, esp. in larger sizes, or long thin ones.
Does having a bigger (larger coverage) rice paper laminate cause the same problem (for instance cover the whole board with rice paper)? Does rice paper saturate in resin?
What I could prolly do is use a heavy weight rice paper roll that you get from the art stores and feed it through the vinyl cutter. We can replace the blade holder with somekind of acrylic/water based pen and start drawing on it. We might have to play with the tip pressure as to not rip the rice paper.
