Vixen File

I just tried my one this morning that I got off Keith Melville. Used it on the lap edges on a ding repair in the nose. Worked like a charm. If you’re too chicken like me to break out the grinder on the deck laps then I would highly recommend that you get one. Very smooth edges!

Great files but just to let folks know, I don’t have any more of them… sorry! If I run across a fresh supply y’all will hear about it.

I did stumble across some pretty nifty ultra light glass on fins tho…

I gotta get my head outta the gutter…vixen files. I was all ready for reef girls or somethin’

http://www.simondsinternational.com/files/vix-babbitt.php?menu=mnuPFiles - they are made in ( very roughly ) my neck of the woods, along with some other Really Cool Files, some sweet rasps, riffler files, planer blades, bandsaw blades and blade stock - gawd, please, stop me before I blow the food budget on them. I mean, they make circular saw blades up to 108" in diameter, with individually replacable teeth… cool stuff.

Files are highly underrated tools

doc…

Dean, you should be able to get them locally. I think they’re referred to as a “dreadnought” though i could be wrong. Im pretty sure i can get them at work. I have looked at them and though they’d be way too rough for foam, but, for the laps, they might be handy. I’ll try to see if i can get them at work tonight.

These files are great, I got one from Keith a while ago and I take down every cutlap I do with them. What I do is work the file at a 45 degree angle to the lap line, and it takes it right down. This has probably been one of the best tricks that I stumbled across here on sways. Thanks Keith…

Mike

a “bogfile” is another name they go under…

Ive only known these as Aluminum files or vixen files

you can get them where they sell metal working tools

Autobody supply houses may have them also.

For any of the vixen file advocates out there, here is a good inexpensive source for vixen files: http://www.yardstore.com/browse.cfm/2,465.html

Damn good prices.

BEST tool to take down the bead on a glossed board.

bead as in drips and such?? so instead of sanding you use this file to soften thecut-lap edge??

…entered into surf binder…

Ghetto, who sells those locally?

I want one.

These files will cut through hardened fiberglass or resin drops like butter. You can use these for cutlaps too. I used mine yesterday on a fin blank and I also used it to cut down spots where I did some board repairs with a mix of shredded glass and resin. I have a 10" flat file.

Barry, I have a stash of Vixen files… PM me and we’ll get you set up.

Be sure you get the files with the half round grooves. The other files don’t cut as well. I have the diamond cut version shown on the yardstore site and it is not as good.
