Volan Help

Thinking of attempting my first volan work on a board and have a question. I want to tint the bottom using normal 6 oz cloth and then put on a volan deck patch for the cool color effect. My question is will the board be too weak in the nose area if I lay 7.5 oz deck patch and only 6 oz over?

Essentially the nose would only have 6 oz on it… was concerned that’d be too weak and provide a nice breaking point for the board. Thoughts?

Thanks and share the stoke!

I assume this is for a longboard.   If it were me I’d do 2 layers of 6oz+deckpatch and not fret about the “additional weight”.   Your rails need love, too.

If this is for a shortboard where weight is actually a concern then I’d do a minimum of 2 layers of 4oz+deckpatch.

Answer;  No.    Also you could forego the use of Volan and use six ounce and a “One Drop” tint for effect.  Green or Brown work.

Perfect. Thanks for the responses.

good point on rails too

When you did the 7.5 deck patch and the 6oz over the top; I assume you did this in 2 stages:
Stage 1. Tap the lap lines on the deck for the 7.5 then laminate that then wait until the glass is sticky/tacky then cut at the lap line on the deck and then
STAGE 2. Do the 6oz over it as per usual including over the rails now.

I guess I’m asking: you can’t do these 2 layers together when you do the deck patch can’t you.
