Just curious: I can’t say I’ve seen a Volan job without gloss, at least opaque jobs. Anyone know why more glossless Volan boards aren’t out there? Does it just not look right without gloss, or is it just because if you shell out for the Volan, why not shell out for gloss??? While we’re at it: The question we’re all afraid to ask: How do you say it? “Vuh-lon” “Voh-LON” “Voh-LANN” “VOH-lin” ??? What’s the history on the name anyway??? Acronym? Guy’s name? Chemical combination?

Deeb: Bet this guy knows. http://johnrsweet.com/Fabric.html This is a great primer on fiberglass cloth, too much information. A sanded only Volan board is actually pretty funky. Rough spots and it looks krappy. A thin gloss coat really makes the board look nice while sealing it up. Maybe it is vain, but I think a board’s looks are important.
