Volume vs. Length help

I am looking at moving back down to a smaller board after 20 years on longboards and transition boards. I have a simple question I was hoping someone could help me with. I'm looking at two bigger sized "fish" (in brackets here to appease the traditionalists), a 6'6" and a 6'8", with pretty well identical dimensions except the 6'6" is 3.25 inches thick, and the 6'8" is 3'. All else being equal on the two boards, which do you think would provide more float?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

6' 6'' x 3 1/4''

That is really not enough info.  If the 6’8" is 23" wide and the 6’6" is 19" wide, obviously there is a big difference…

I have been playing with an interesting board.  It is a 6’4"x23"x3" simm I made.  I took the thickness out to the rails so it is a ton of volume.

Anyway, it has plenty of paddle power, however, it had very little hull speed.  So, eventhough it has 3/4 the volume of a longboard, it simply does not have the hull speed that a longboard can obtain.

That said, I love that board.  It is very easy to paddle and is very fun to ride.

Thanks for your reply.

The dimensions are virtually the same in the nose (17.75") tail (16.75) and middle (22.5 inches). The only differences are those I mentioned in my first post, the 6'8" in 2 inches longer, but the 6'6" is a quarter inch thicker. Which do you think would produce the more float?

Thanks Bill, much appreciated
