wake surf boards

Im looking to build a wake surf board in the next few days to give to my brother out in florida,  the boat he has is only a tornament boat that we load up with people water and beer however the wake is still very small. I have tried a small almost skim board design and a small symmonds style design but neather were great so looking for ideas on whats best for a small wake.

many thanks

Green Light surf supply makes several wake board blanks.  My only experience with wakeboards is via a young friend of mine who I watched many times from the boat on a glass skim board.  I always thought that it would work a lot better with some more float(volume). But he insisted to continue using the skimboard and waste our time watching him lose the wake and fall.

Just this past weekend I rode a wakesurf board for the first time. And just this past Tue I was picking up some foam from an outfit that manufactures and sells wakesurf boards. I glassed and bagged a board for a buddy that took me surfing, and although I didn’t take specific measurements of his whole board, I did get this.

Length 4’ 10" Width 22 1/2"   12" from tail 19 1/2" wide. 12" at tail. I didn’t get 12" from nose or fin placement, but his board had a shortboard style nose.  3 1/2" nose rocker 2" tail rocker. HARD tucked rail all the way.

The boards the manufacturing shop I visited had a fuller more fish style nose (no measurements taken) and the main thing I noticed was that right at the tail the boards looked to be prob 1 1/2" thick. That thickness caught my eye. Seemed to be a distinctive characteristic.

Hope this helps. Oh and, it was fun. Spectacular wipeouts!

Phase 5 has some good stuff and I like the look of most of the Liquid Force range. I built a Happy Pill to kite with and that is really good being “Simmons like” in nature…I reckon the Sixer would also be a laugh…

The above video from Ronix has some nice shots of the boards in the water.

cheers thanks for the info so far, the footage from lake wake on his bean looks interesting and like it is a fairly small wake.

this is the last one i built, i thought it was going to go better than my first which was smaller and thinner with a more rounded outline however it is a real strugel to keep it moving. ps i did end up putting bigger fins on it
