wakeboard repair/refurbish

hi i was wondering if anybody could help me i know its not about making surfboards but i jus cant think of anywhere else to ask the question

basicly ive repaired my wakeboard, it was cracked and ive repaired it in a similar way to repairing a surfboard but the problem is i jus dont know what coating to put on the base of the board, because i slide the board across plastic obstacles and i want to put a coating on the bottom of the board that will not be too sticky on the plastic but also wont wear away to quickly, anyone got any ideas

cheers farley

Hi Farley,

Had a similar situation with a fiberglass skiff/dinghy I set up that spends its life being dragged across gravel and pavement. A previous owner had done something similar which resulted in it being busted, cracked and ground down on a few ‘runner-like’ bits on the bottom.

Well, after fixing the bottom I kinda decided that I didn’t want to have to do that any more, so I took some cutting board material, High Density Polyethylene ( HDPE) and fastened strips to the places it’d contact said gravel and such. It’s working very well.

Now, the strips I used might not work for you, but the stuff comes as sheets, films and so on, a little heat and you can bend or form it. Some of the film-type stuff ( sold as an applique for table saw fences) has a peel-and-stick back on it, though that’s actually what’s called UHMW plastic See http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2000902/4004/slick-strips-3-width.aspx

hope that’s of use

Some people add graphite powder to the resin to make a more scuff proof coat and lower the friction.
