It seems to me that the next few months are going to be interesting. I have spoken to some shapers who don’t think epoxy will be the majority of the market or even make much of a dent once alternative sources of foam are found. I think it’s too soon to tell. Were I a shaper, I would not want all my eggs to be in one basket or the hands of another person’s business again. It’s a weak link. Finding a way to make your own blanks and your own surfboards from those blanks as at least an alternative would seem safer to me. Someone is going to make a play for Clarks former position, maybe a group, but the writing is on the wall. Times will never be the same.
The shops are going to jump on whatever they can get their hands on the quickest, so it’s even an opportunity for other sources of retail to spring up. The shapers gave that away to the clothing companies once, maybe this time they will benefit from something different. We could be looking at another explosion of progression, like we had in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I can’t wait to see whats around the bend.
