Swaylocks isnt the best place to post this

Considering that’s there’s around 30,000 of unsold Asian imported surfboards sitting in warehouses here in the States with little or no demand for them, good luck.

I understand where you guys are coming from,

(from what I often read) Swaylocks is generally indended for the custom - backyard - first time shaper to be helped out by reading the help given to them by the more experienced shapers/manufacturers.

But I feel I have posted this in the right part of Swaylocks, and it is an offer to help out many people.

So my offer still stands…

I am allways updating / researching the newest trends / tecniques / art / model improvements

so that my boards are up there with the quality of endurance and surfing ability of the Australian or American made boards.

Only done somewhat cheaper overseas by utilizing the cheap rent, buying bulk building marterials, tax issues, and of course the American dollar being SOO strong compared to the rest of the worlds currency.

I would be sitting down with a potential distributor and together we would design a range of boards that does not resemble anything like the common (30’000) chinese practice boards that are around.

Boards designed for their duty, with modern artwork , marketed to people who are sick of paying top dollar.

gee with the depression round the corner and the next phase of consumer/household defaults to hit the financial world, you are brave to actually pursue such a venture… brave or just not the sharpest knife in the kitchen drawer…

Retail off the rack board sales are at a historic all time low. Retailers are still sitting on a lot of last years unsold inventory that isn’t moving. The economic recession, high unemployment and tightening credit doesn’t help the situation. The custom market is the only thing that still viable these days.

Oh, and molded epoxy SUP’s are selling too.

Again, good luck.

Hi

I appreciate your feelings, towards offshore building of surfboards, and thank you for keeping your reply civil.

I find Honesty is the best approch when it comes to dealing most people , especially those in an industry where most of them really do not like having other people come bounding on in cutting their grass cheaper than the neibours kid.

Your help that you written has helped out many more young and up coming shapers, more than me just looking at sways once a month to gather some little way of fixing a problem, or to just see what you inspired guys are writing. I do not lurk around with fake names playing dumb to get answers, I rarely post, and when I do, its normally about the chinese board market to get reactions on how people feel.

Please dont be discouraged by one guy compared to the thousands of local guys who would take in much much more information than I ever have. The main insights I have ever gathered is only confirming what I was about to try, or the opposite, to see what you guys are up to , So I know what you havnt done as to find a neich into the market.

.

You ask about helping people out, well I see it as, (please correct me if you dissagree)

the USA goverment gets tax when they are imported, tax they dont normally get from a backyard guy

The shaper who is having his brand’s stock models made overseas and/or the Distibuter make more money than they normally would

The Shop makes more money

The customer saves money, probably a lot, and thus can spend his change, back into the economy or on his family.

(not to mention that once the guy who bought a cheaper board, now has extra money in his bank , so in the long term, if he surfs good enough and loves it he will come to someone like you, to express his feelings on what he needs in a board, thus increasing you bussiness because he still has some cash)

At the end of all that,

I’m still looking for someone.

if your interested, PM or Email me

Of course, the blank manufacturers, airbrush artists, glassers, lam printers, etc all make less and suffer under this plan. Maybe the way you have it figured out puts money in the shapers pocket, or more likely the retail shop owners, but there are lots of other people in the manufacturing chain that will lose money. Looks like a the continuation of a very slippery slope that has already taken quite a toll on the US industry.

As stock models disappear overseas leaving only custom models made locally there will be quite a few less surfers that can support themselves in the industry as the domestic base continues to shrink. Looks like the potential for a lot of lost technology along the way as innovative and creative folks are forced to find other work.

China takes over the world. News at 11.

I like your post, you have great ideas, especialy about selling to china, your right thats a huge market.

and yes, your Thai freind is telling the truth, I have lived there(well close , actually china) for many years and when I go to the beach its only me and the guys that work in my factory(chinese) that actually go out swimming or surfing.

I guess the main reason people dont sell to china is that there dollar is weak,

the same reason you would Not buy a longboard made in ENGLND for 2100 EURO

that will do me for know.

…Gone with the wind!

Dead Shaper, Thanks for taking the time to write in my post, Your very well written pieces are good reading of someones facts and or opinions.

and I definatly expected some people to post here with all the for and againsts , If i didnt want the coverage I would have posted an AD.

Yes its bussiness, not personal, out side of this enviroment we would probably enjoy a beer down the local pub, I take no direct offence to what you write,

and please take none to mine, The internet is always full of missinterpritations and can get people fueled up, when no misdeamenor was meant.

But perhaps there is some people out there, maybe in the swaylocks community that has thought about this way of making money.

If so , keep the PM’s rolling in , or Email me for more info

(again, I will never speak of or write about our relationship or discussions)

What is art without conscience? Mitch, there is more to life than the pursuit of the dollar. I agree with deadshaper, in this endeavour, I hope you fail.

Since this is a commission offer, you don’t have enough confidence in your business plan to invest your own money. Taking advantage of the lack of sophistication of your victims is heartless.

Made for surfers by people that not only DON’T SURF…they don’t even swim!!

I take it your friend has never heard the term vandalism.
