Forgot I had a 9" Rusty flex fin in my truck yesterday, and temps were pushing 100. Now the tip bends to the right. Any ideas about fixing this without affecting the flex characteristics? Mahalo, Jamie
Jamie: If you go into the archives and search under warped boards for a post by Herb Spitzer you will find a possible cure. As I recall, Herb fixed a board by adding weights to it and placing it in a car on a hot day. While you may not reproduce the exact flex, the heating and a little sanding may bring it close. As an aside: Lately, I have repaired a number of boards where I have considered the fin to be warped - mostly older or hand foiled. These fins create the old “truing a wheel” situation. Is it the fin,the box, the board, or all three. In any case, good luck. Patrick
try riding with it warped-might be that it bent in such a way that it works better…
My buddies fin warped like that one time but it straighted out after acouple days. Maybe yours will do thesame…
Warm it up with a heat gun…I had a Liddle flex fin that developed a bent…The heat gun technique will set it straight… http://www.hollowsurfboards.com
Thanks for the tips, guys. I put the fin in the oven on a low setting for about fifteen minutes, with a brick over the bend. Straightened right out. I’ll repost if anything freaky happens as a result.
