I have been working with Warvel foam to provide high quality blanks on the West Coast. The goal is to supply both EPS and PU blanks…more choices! We now have an APS 3000 for shaping, and a glassing facility. Since I will only be glassing with Resin Research epoxy, no polyester glassing will be performend at this facility. Greg has a new epoxy for PU foam, and that is what we will be using. If you have any questions…shoot me a line or check out the web site… www.segwaycomposites.com
Thanks!!!

Just thought I would add the link to the Warvel Blanks Catalog… www.warvelsurf.com I think the WMD’s (Warvel Multi-Density Foam) looks pretty promising… enjoy!!!

Just an update on the APS 3000. The extension of the machine out to cut up to 20 ft boards is now on track, and should be complete by mid May…
WMD’s in CA. I can’t wait.
Just got a small pre-shipment of WMD’s. Can’t wait to get some cut on the machine! I have about 6 each of the 6’0" and the 6’3". Foam and glue-up look good! Should have a complete inventory of product in the near future!

The shipment has arrived!!! We now have the full line of Warvel blanks in stock, including the WMD’s in the 6’9", 6’3" and the 6’0" sizes. We also have the 10’1", 9’8", 9’4", 8’4", 7’3", 6’9", 6’3", 6’2", and the 6’0". We spent the day unloading the truck (in 104 degree heat!) and got the boards organized and put away…all 250 of them! We also have Warvel sheet foam in sizes 84" X 24" X 3mm, 84" X 24" X .25" and 84" X 24" X .5". So if you have one of those comp-san projects you wanted to get started on…here is your chance…
Thanks!!!

Segway Composites
Interesting,
Can you guys expound on these cores? There website is very limited in information. How does it compare to EPS?
I’ve bought a few Segway EPS blanks and have had good results.
Thanks,
Josh
Josh…
I just received the blanks, and have not had a chance to cut any as yet, but what I can tell you is that the foam looks very tight. The 6' 0" WMD's come with either a 1.5 or a 2.0 lb density core, and 5 lb density PU on the rails. The parabolic stringers are 1/8" basswood. I am looking forward to building a few of the boards. Greg Loehr has built several and is quite happy with the results...
I'll try to gather additional info...
Thanks!!!

Josh - We have been providing WMD blanks on the east coast for over a year and a half and they are really popular out of Nags Head and Buxton. Scott Busbey and Lyn Shell do most of them. I have one in my office glassed by Scott to ride that weighs 5.8 pounds. It will be on display at Surf Expo in Sept 08. Greg Loehr and Scott welcome calls to discuss glassing techniques. Greg is on this site all the time and Scott is at Natural Art Surf Shop in Buxton, NC. Lyn also displayed one at the January Surf Expo (08) at the Board Builders Pavilion. Lyn is at Outer Backs Boarding in Nags Head, NC.
We are really excited to have Ken distribute these out of Colton, CA. The WMD will make a great, durable, high performance board. Ken, Greg and Warvel Surf are all sharing a booth at ASR. Stop by and see us if you’re going to the show.
The best way to make a high performance board in my estimation. Lighter and stronger than other shape and glass methods. This product will also lead us to a simple compsand tech very soon, about a month. Stay tuned right here. I’ll have a photo run down of the whole method when I get back from the FL expo.
I’VE SHAPED A FEW OF THESE BLANKS AND THEY SHAPE OUT NICE. THE FOAM PLANES AND SHAPES NICELY. ALSO THE STRINGER LOOKS GOOD ON THE LONGBOARD BLANKS.I ONLY USE POLYESTER RESIN AND I’VE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH LAMINATIONS OR AIRBRUSHING. EVERYONE SHOULD TRY THESE. KEEP ON SURFING!!! SPILLMAN SURFBOARDS
Chris (Spillman) - Actually you’re hooked on our PU blanks. Many think our PU is too heavy. We’ve tried to explain that we more or lass mirrored the plugs off Clark’s (who didn’t??). Our error, if you will, is that we made them symetrical side to side and on the thick rather than thin side. Initially, they do weigh more. Once shaped they are a reasonable weight. We also recognize that these PU blanks will probably not win world competitions… but the WMD easily could. You, and our Myrtle Beach distributor Todd Sutz, know that not every surfer will enter competitions… they surf for the fun of it. For this purpose, the boards are super and will not ding as quickly as others. 2.5 years ago the industry asked for “tough.” We delivered.
For those into high performance boards our WMD has an EPS core, double basswood stringers, and WarvelSurf high density PU foam rails. This will require an epoxy resin… or better yet, the Resin Research product that will glass both PU and epoxy - with a UV additive.
Thanks for your support. You’re great!!
Cindy
The WMD Compsand process and discussion is available under a new thread in the discussion forum “WMD Compsand”.
Ken (Segway Composites) has also organized a seminar for this Sunday at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. Greg Loehr will demonstrate the process… Ken will have some machined blanks for the demo. Contact Ken if you want to attend. 909.262.8776.
