I was looking to buy my first board, I was done renting it was adding up. So my dad and I spent our whole morning two months ago driving around searching for a used board. Nobody wanted to sell the starry eyed grom a shortboard. I babysat for five months saving for this board and I only had 200. By mid morning I was hopeless- nobody wanted to sell me anything short, and anything longer cost too much. Until I went to this one shop where a guy sold me a 5"7 shortboard with two dings and an old leash. The thing floats inslanely well and its pretty thick. It was flat that weekend so I only paddled around on it. It was hard but I got the hang of it. So my question is- do you think ill have trouble catching waves when there is a swell? If so what should I do? Sell it? Keep it until I get the hang of things? I only get to surf like a few times every two months and I did take a lesson with my longer rented fun board.
Oh and yes I fixed the sings before I took it out into the water.
I hope he didn’t charge you extra for the two dings.
You do not say how much you weigh. I think a 5’7 is a poor choice for any beginner who might surf only on rare occasions. But, a 5’7 would be fine for someone who weighs less than 80 lbs, I guess.
Aren’t you the same one who just had a skiiing accident in which you broke your neck? Is this some sort of joke? Seriously, first you ask if you should go on a surf trip after breaking your neck and then you are talking about buying a 5’7" as a beginner? You need to crawl before you can walk as the saying goes. Start with a longboard and work down. The guy who sold you a 5’7" should be shot.

Sharkgirl, Costco 8' foam boards are 110$ out the door brand new so they can be bought used in excellent condition for 60, 70, 80$, they are very good for learning.
