I just picked up an old Weber Performer for el-cheapo and it appears to be a bit water logged. Seems like the waveset box was cracked…I opened some holes where it was “sweating” from hoping to speed up the process. And left it out in the sun (not too harsh) Just looking for some tips?
Howzit goomer, Rinse any exposed foam with fresh water to get rid of the sodiun crystals that are left when salt water dries. This will also make the foam dry faster. Aloha, Kokua
Good advice thanks! I was also wondering if the waveset box is sealed behind where the screws thread thru? My thought is longer screws may have cracked the box as well.
I thought UV rays greatly weaken/harden polyurethane and epoxy. There was surfboard collector who built a large hot oven for drying out old waterlogged longboards. If im not mistaken he drilled tiny holes in the boards outer shell to let the moisture evaporate out.
That is basically what I am doing. Drilling the holes that is. The heat/sun in Massachusetts is not very intense and the temp is around 70’s. I usually flip it every now and then. I am not baking it…although I’m sure this board has spent many hot summer days in the sun. I am in no rush to finish the job, and I am sure it will take awhile. I heard once that acetone will draw out moisture, but not sure if this true. Haven’t tried it.
