We fade to grey

Beni (one of the guys at Shaperoom.net) recently asked me to try and make him something along the lines of TYLER’s “Mini Zeke”. Since I don’t like to copy others’ templates, I just picked up the basic measurements that TYLER indicates for this board on his site and drew my own template from there. The end result sure looks like the original, but not quite: the tail, for one, is a bit more pulled in although the measurement at 1’ from the tail is the same. With three width points (widest point, nose width, tail width) you may draw quite different curves…

Anyway, here it is, sanded but no gloss coat yet when I shot the photos (it’s been done since, I should wet sand and polish today):

Oh, and, nose rocker is a bit more, too, since I used a 8’5" blank (for a 8’4" board): I had to do with the built-in rocker. (I should have used at least a 9’ something to adjust… Oh well, it was not meant to be a clone, right?)

OK, for Chip (and others) here are the dims: 8’4" x 18 3/4" x 23" x 16" x 2 5/8". Double 6 oz top, single 6 oz bottom. Grey-tinted resin and Posca pin-line. Long fin-box.

Very, very nice dude!

Nice board !

Thanks for the photos

Ray

Thanks to both of you! UncleD, I didn’t even have time to tell you that your Dave PARMENTER might very well be my next “copy” attempt, since I have been asked to make TWO SUPs in the 12’ range…

If that is so… make lots of room in your shop. Those boards are huge… 12’3"x23"x30"x18"x5". 38" wide rolls of fiberglass was required. Sanding the hot coat took me over 3 hours.

It floats great and paddling is challenging and fun!

Yeah, I was thinking of it… That, and the fact that those will be my first ever EPS/Epoxy, all that tends to make me nervous… I’m gonna need A LOT OF HELP from all of you out there to make them look like something…

Meanwhile, today was wet sanding/polishing day. I have a black T-shirt striped by polish at waist level, but a shiny board, too:

GREAT looking board!!!

Thanks, Scottw (and all of you). Looks like Beni agrees, too:

Actually, I would have liked to catch a few waves with it but alas I had to let it go… I should have some feedback from Beni tomorrow since we are blessed with a good small swell with offshore winds… I’ll let you know…

another beautiful board balsa. thanks for sharing.
