Has anyone ridden or own a Tom Wegener surfboard? I would love to have a wood board in my quiver.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

Go to the above fourm. Ask the the question there. I know of three guys. Coastie, Morgan The Moon, and Freefilms. They all have Wegener foam boards. I have riden Freefilms “Signature” model. It realy felt like it wanted to be riden on the nose. It did feel a bit light. But I think this was because I was out on my 50lb balsa 10’er.
Freefilms knows Tom and I am pretty sure he has riden some of his timber boards. platty.
Hi, my friend has borrowed a paulownia 9’8 from the uk distributor, i haven’t ridden it yet but it looks awesome in real life, more beautiful than the pictures.
He’s ridden it a couple of time & says it’s like a heavy 60’s noserider - good but no better than some foam noseriders he’s ridden. Admittedly it’s rare that our beach break looks like chest high noosa!
Try http://www.uk-soul.com/surfboards.htm & e mail Rich who runs the site, he’s spent a fair bit of time in noosa with wegener
I’ve ridden a foam Model A and loved it - it’s the first and only soft railed single fin that I’ve ridden and I much preferred the ride to a performance style Mal.
Tom offers a few models, the Signature Model is more for the surfer who can cross-step fluently and is more willing to work the board on the wave, whilst the Model A is aimed at the surfer starting out on the Traditional trip.
Never tried a wooden Wegener but I’d love to have a go - not sure where you’re from Arcadia, but I think there’s a 12’ Signature Model for rent in Waikiki.
yep arcadia, i’ve ridden a couple of tom’s paulownia boards (my username on realsurf as platty has mentioned is freefilms), namely a 9’6" signature model & a 12’. i was lucky enough to ride the 9’6" in very clean, lined-up waist-high tea tree & the 12’ in messy onshore sloppy summer noosa beachbreak.
i have to admit i’m more than a little biased as i’m friends with tom, made him a short promo film to help him promote the boards & have featured tom making & riding his paulownia surfboards in a longboarding film i made here in australia called ‘lines from a poem…’
having said this, i really can affirm that wood wegeners ride very beautifuly. they definitely ride differently to foam, they are very lively & positive & have incredible momentum. they really are perfect suring machines. contact tom via his website & i know he will be more than happy to share his ideas with you.
They are heavy ,really heavy ,but once you one the wave they are a beatiful thing.
