Was wandering if any Sways Bros had attempted building/sewing their own wetsuit. If so what were any issues/probs related to doing sew?? What type of rubber? Sourcing?? Did you use “the machine”?? What type of thread?? Mil of rubber etc. pics of the build "thread"would be helpful. Lowel
OK Lowell, you mock, but IIRC there have been some who did make their own wetsuits. Obviously would take some skill and determination, but fully do-able to the comitted DIYer. Why not? People have all kinds of skills and talents and time, nothing wrong with putting it to use in some creative endeavor. Cost-effective is not the only measure of a project’s worth.
Have to say, the “machine” line was a good one, lol.
I want a 1 or 2mm vest with a 4mm hood. No zip. Haven’t seen one yet.
I made a neoprene headband.
I know of someone who made a cover for their IPad out of an old wetsuit. Surely someone has attempted. Like I told a girlfriend once; “The best “rubbers” are from Japan. So don’t worry about it”.
M’Ding, Howzit? Long time. Merry Christmas.
I’m sure you are yanking us but a buddy went into production of neoprene hats a while ago. Like everything, there is more to it than it seems. You need a sewing machine to do the type of stitch that will stretch with the rubber but not penetrate the outside layer to prevent leaks. To do this by hand would take serious time and patience. It is easy to source the rubber but to get the right garment maker is key. He made nice hats with fleece lining and sold okay. It took time to sell and then collect from shop owners. Then, the punk reps from the big guys squeezed him out of local shps by holding the owners’ feet to the fire. It was an “us or them” situation. Anyone that has tried to open a shop of their own or tried to get boards into a name shop has had similar experiences. Thug tactics by punks in skinny jeans and weird hairdos. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Grubby Clark’s game
Yeah Huck, I know what you mean. But I’ve heards some pretty good stuff about Grubby too. From guys that worked on his home in the Islands. Merry Christmas to you and thanks for your work on this site.

I want what chrisp wants only with a beaver tail. Mike
Yes!
throw it on over any regular wetsuit for those extra cold sessions.
Beaver tail with snaps to keep it from going up over your head during a wipeout.
Perfect
I started to build my own wetsuit in 1975 It should be finished anyday now.
I’ve been using Low VOC epoxy all year. My under the radar ding repair deal is working well to boost my savings account. Business model says that by March of 2016 I should have enough cash to buy a used Bee Keeper suit and a few hives. I already own 2 orange trees so that’s a no brainer. Soon I will be making my own surf wax and selling organic honey at the local Farmers Market…Models show that in about 2-5 years of selling wax and honey I will have enough cash to buy one boy sheep and one girl sheep…Sure hope they are very sexual…if you know what I mean… As my Bees and sheep procreate my business will grow…That’s when my business really kicks into gear. Do It Your Self Wool Wetsuit Liners !!! 100% home grown/organic…buy a cheap 3 mil suit and add my hand made wool liners! Wow I’m really stoked! and with my cash only business model there will be no taxes or other goverment intervention… we’re on it Bro…screw the homemade leashes I’m hard core on the Wool Wet Suit Liners… and I’m also going to start an organic fertilizer company…sheep gotta go somewhere.
