Just a reboot to an old thread topic to check in and share some pics of any projects you have going on, are in the middle of, etc. Anything surf related.
Trying to figure out exactly how wide the tabs are on older Libtech RRIP fin boxes. I realize FCS 2 type fins can fit in them so I’m going to a shop tomorrow to get the dimensions, but I hear the RRIP fins fit best - probably just a touch over 5/16" wide - my guess is going to be 8.1mm.
I’m on Gran Canaria, need to finish designs of my fins and 3D print them here before I head to Lanzarote where I’ll be picking up a Libtech shortboard. Gotta print my fins while I’m here and am kicking myself for not bringing a measurement caliper.
Thank you swaylocks - probably have enough info thanks to this thread:
“The FCS2 tabs are 6 mm thick, 14 mm deep, both tabs cover 99mm, the front hook sits out 9mm in front of the leading edge at the base.”
Welcome to the forum Shackly!
Beyond the Coanda Channel work with @stoneburner , I am preparing to commence for a potential 9’-6" build.
If it’s just the tab thickness your after make them a bit thicker . All those fin bases are in the ballpark of 1/4 inch thickness / 6.3mm.
Thanks for the welcome Jrandy! Before I left Santa Cruz for this extended surf trip, I was surfing a 9’7" Flying Truck by @Halcyon and Bobby Ledesma. Incredible board, they put all sorts of ideas into it - no stringer just carbon fiber for stiffness, a Muñoz nose, almost 23" wide, reverse V out the back. I’ve got some decent footage of it, must post.
Thanks Jr, I’ve got an STL of a FCS2 box and I’m getting 6.9mm with it… being 3D printed should be easy enough for me to sand 0.3mm off each side of the tabs if needed, but if the box is 6.9mm wide I guess I’ll be picking up some surf stickers haha.
It won’t be easy to get it right at first try anyway, there’s so much inconsistency to printer calibration, slicer settings and so on…
I see you are prepared with stickers and sanding paper…
Enjoy the trip!
