Gotta gloss coat but the sun went down and have no UV lights. What % catalyst for my UV Gloss Resin would I use? No more than 2%? A little over 1%?
Thanks

Howzit Liki, What kind of gloss resin is it, Silmar or Rheichold(spelling) . I use rheichold an if i use 20 oz of resin I use 25 cc's catalyst, but that's at a environment temp of about 80 degres fahrenheit. The fact that it UV resin doesn't change the amount of catalyst it takes to kick off when there's no sun or not using UV lights. One thing about glossing at night is the insect factor, they are attracted to the resin. Aloha,Kokua
Fiberglass Hawaii brand and lo and behold it has guidelines on the side of the can.
1 quart of resin - 9cc (1%) of catalyst in an 80 degree room.
70-80 degrees - 14cc (1-1/2%) of catalyst.
60-70 degrees - 18 cc (2%) of catalyst.
How much gloss resin for a 6’3" board? 1-1/2 pints? 1-quart?
Looks like I have about 1/2 gal of gloss in the can.

Howzit Liki, If it’s from F.H. then it’s Reichold resin which kicks off faster than Silmar but don’t go by what’s on the can. For got to add that I thin my gloss with about 10% styrene and also about 3-5% S.A…With this mix for a 6’3" board you should no more than 16oz of resin and use 20 cc’s catalyst per side. When I do a 9’ longboard I use 20oz resin and 25 cc’s catalyst, will kick in about 10 to 15 minutes which is enough time for the resin to spread out nice and even for a good finish. Do you live on Oahu? aloha,Kokua
I went by the can. 15cc’s for about 28 oz in a 75 degree room. 90 minutes later is just starting to gel. Pulled the tape off too soon, so getting some drips. Just using a towel to get rid of them. Will definetly use more cat on the other side.

Howzit Liki, Too much resin, not enough catalyst. Probably more on the floor than on the board. Next time you gloss pour a little of the mixed resin left in the container in to a small cup. While waiting occasionally stir the resin in the cup, til you notice it start to thicken, that's when you pull the tape. Aloha,Kokua
