What do you bring to the beach

Hey whe you guys go to the beach what do you bring? How many boards? What boards for conditions?

2-3 foot:

4-6 foot:

7-10 foot:

10-15 foot:

what do you guys bring in these conditions?

2-3 foot: My 6’3" 2+1 or my 6’5

4-6 foot: My 6’3" 2+1(above) or my 6’3" singlefin (below)

7-10 foot: see above

10-15 foot: I stay at home and quiver in fear

Its funny, the 2+1 was my FIRST proper build. I still surf it more regurarly than any other board I have…Its heavy as f**k, 6/6 deck and 6 bottom, the tail rocker is “wrong”… but somehow its the most consistent board I have.

Is that glow in the dark

If it’s sunny and warm I bring 3 kids under 7 and a whole raft of problems…if it’s raining I only need a board. Short and wide when it’s up to head high. Over 6’6" when its overhead. Double over head pretty much sees my limit. Much bigger than that I go home with my tail between my legs.
Needless to say I frequently pray for rain.
Cheers

When waves are short (always short waves in north sea) or when getting out with a longboard is too scary: 6’5" self built CI Flyer like shortboard

When waves are long (mostly when on surf trips) and not to scary: 9’1" performance longboard

And offcourse an extra set of fins to experiment with.

Oh yeah almost forgot: when >5bft a windsurf set.

I bring a board. If the conditions warrant a change of boards I ride my bike back to the house and get what I need. I rarely surf more than 2 miles from my house.

You sound like my dad, bringing my sister which is always a problem, my step mom( a problem for me) and all their crap and then I just go off with my 2 boards, a wetsuit, a bar of wax, extra fins and leash and a towel

I usually have 2-3 boards in my truck all the time. A fish, 6-6 square, and a 7-2 rounded pin.  Lately I ve been carrying 3 wetsuits.  An old 4-3,  a new 4-3, and a 5-4.  I try not to forget my towel.

Yeah I really need a new 3/2 or even used I don’t really care I just need one. If you guys have one maybe I’m a mt.

Lots of wildly exaggerated stories (i.e.: lies) about my previous surfing exploits to tell to the other geezers I run into in the beach parking lot:

“Dude, you shoulda seen me during the epic winter of '69…”

Seriously, though:

•3-gallon jug of warm rinse water, extra leash, assortment of fins, allen wrenches, screwdriver, 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit (depending on season), hood, booties, sammich/banana/and drinking, Rubbermaid bin to keep wetsuit water/salt off vehicle, 2 beach towels, a good book in case I have to “wait out” tide or wind, sunscreen.

•Board: anything from 7’6" egg to 9’8" retro log, depending on conditions.  The smaller/softer the waves, the loggier the board.  I commit to a board when I leave home and never take more than one (except on surf trips).  If I guess wrong, I just make do as best as I can with whatever I brung.  Few of my boards are so specialized that they can’t be made to work in a range of conditions.

I don’t generally ride a lot of waves much over 8’ anymore.   Even when I was younger, DOH was about my limit.

I don’t have much of a quiver but I always try to leave with some kind of man made litter - maybe just a small piece of net or junk - it doesn’t matter.

I just try to leave the ocean a better place than I found it.

I’d urge us all to try the same - feels damn good too.

Check Surfline before you leave the house.

My 5’2 Al Merrick Biscuit, my handboard, fins, bar of wax, rashie, spare Leggie, couple towels, sunscreen and surf lock for the car keys. For over 4ft I add my JS prodigy 5’10. Never been in bigger then 8-10ft…yet

Lots of positive thoughts, usually followed by swearing.

If its small, or im way out of paddle fitness, my 9’1" ( where I’m a now :frowning: )

Small n sucky JD keel fish

Head high + good waves JD fish

Up to Head high fat 9’1"

Don’t surf much overhead waves really, only when I’ve been surfing heaps and have lots of paddle fitness.

I also have a 6’6" egg, which I’ve only surfed a few times, and a 7’6" short board, which is for bigger waves, but hasn’t had much water time. Come to think of it, my dry run of surf started when I got that board, hmmmm

A 6’5" single fin and a 6’0" stubbie fishy thing, wax, towel, banana, sunscreen (no ozone layer down here in southern oz), 1.5L of water and a thermos full of stand-your-spoon-up-in-it black coffee. Sometimes I remember my wallet so I can hit the bakery after the surf. Nothing like an after-surf pie to warm the cockles…

Oh, and my glasses so I can avoid the kangaroos in the pre-dawn. Fuckers’ll jump right out in front of you without any warning.

Oh, and (thanks Ben Chipper) a bag full of fins to try out on the new quad.
