What epoxies for setting fin plugs?

I've switched from using PE to epoxy for glassing my PU blanks, mostly because of the smell where I shape, drives my parents and neighbours crazy.

I'm using CET epoxy and so far am pretty happy with the results. One thing that is frustrating me however is setting fin plugs, as the epoxy takes 4 hours to cure, not 20 mins like poly I have had a couple of times where over the 4 hours, the tape holding the fins has started to slip or stretch and the cant on the fins comes out all wrong.

Is there any faster setting epoxies I could use for this? or should I stick to poly and and try and do it away from the house and neighbours for my fin setting.

What do the eps guys set their fin plugs with?

+1, or you can use Resin-X, which works great

where are you located PirateAgenda?

I suggest the RR fast or CE.

I’m in Sydney, Australia … Will see if I can track down some quick kick. Would probably help my hot coats too.

I use glass ons.  I’ve  gotten a lot of exotherming and bubbling when I’ve done boxes with epoxy.  Especially when you get some pooling, like in routed out holes. I’ve used 5 minute epoxy from the hardware store before, too. Add white pigment.  Mike

Plumbers putty around the base of the jig or fin helps stabilize the cant. Careful taping with better tape helps, too.

I set my plugs with a bit of 5 minute epoxy and then fill it up with epoxy. Never had a problem with it and the cant will stay the same

5-min.
