what grit before gloss coat

just wanting to know to what grit of sandpaper to take down my new board to before a final gloss coat to be polished. i’ve started at 80 on the hot coat going to 120 next , the?

You could use 80 grit and a hard sanding pad in order to get everything leveled out. No need to sand with a finer grit since you’ll be shooting a gloss coat. Gloss coats are great because you can totally burn through when you sand your hotcoat and it gets covered up by the gloss.

The rougher the better.

Rough keeps gloss from drooping on the deck rails.

Sand it flat and leave it scratchy.

60 or 80 grit is OK.

80 or 100 is fine for a clear board… I do a lot of resin pinlines so I prefer 150. I use a super soft pad with the 150. Have only had the gloss separate once or twice. A lot of it depends on how you gloss and what kind of gloss resin you use. I use Reichold and shoot for a 15 minute gel time.

Hey Cleanlines, love your work on the Master Glasser DVD.

Just out of curiosity, what is your resin:MEKP ratio if you’re shooting for a 15-minute gloss gel time? I’m guessing it’s relatively high on the scale, relatively speaking…
