I’d still be spending big $'s on boards 'cause I like to switch around. Now I can make my own and if I ever want a “pro” shaper to make me one I can tell him what works for me ('cause I’m not a clone). Perhaps more importantly I would not have made some of the friends I now have
Thanks to Mike and everyone who shares their knowledge, experience and friendship.
Because of Swaylocks my brother and I spend a heck of a lot of time together. Just like when we were kids growing up.
Making the boards we’ve made gave me an excuse to spend a lot of time at my Father’s house before he passed away. I can’t say how much that meant to me.
I wouldn’t have met Charlie Price, who passed on a tremendous amount of knowledge to us, or Blane, Dennis, Jon and a bunch of other really nice people.
I’d probably still be riding mostly pu/pe boards instead of compsands.
before sways i made one poly board and would not have touched an other one. what a mess and complaines. uuaaahhhhh
i started again with epoxy and now…“brot und butter” poly as well.
my financial position would be much better but i would probabely run through car manufacturing plant in germany or sweden being close to a heart attack and far from the cost.
id have not spent the last two years doing something im absolutely obsessed with…its an invaluable resource that has given me the ability to create freely
The knowledge and more importantly the sharing of this knowledge is such an incredible thing! I’m personally so grateful for all the direct help from individuals here. And not to mention the tons archives to look back on…anything I’ve wanted to do or thought about doing with regard to board building has been documented right here with feedback from people with real knowledge and experience.
Surfboards to me have always been such magical objects, so to be able to create these treasures with our own hands and have them perform the way you anticipated they would is surreal.
Then I would still believe Australia is a small land locked country in Europe. Kidding. Then we would miss out on all the fun and information sharing from people literally all over the world. How many Australians, New Zealanders, French, Dutch, Norwegian, Hawaiian, Japaneese and on and on did you comunicate with regularly before Sways? Hardly any for me. I didnt know there were any surfers in some of the places people post from. Amazing. Thanks Mike P. Mike
Herb, I would whole heartedly believe that it was impossible to shape a surfboard of show room quality, and be unable to understand the effect of subtle design changes and there impact on the performance of a surf craft. I would never had the opportunity to meet all of the special people of here who provide positive vibes, and superior knowledge… Bob
There’s alot of energy here …and I believe… in time…it will blow itself outwards…AGAIN…some more…in a larger fashion.
I’ve learned alot from everyone here…and still learning…not just about surfing or board construction(destruction for some),but life and lives in general.
Sometimes… making the world smaller ,makes us more aware that we really are JUST one.
Howzit Herb, I was in the process of building a web site that would have been just like Sways. Then 1 day I came across a link to Sways and I was so impressed with what Mike had done that I felt I couldn’t not match it. Aloha,Kokua
