What if Swaylocks Never Exsisted ?

Whow ahhh…just got the piss shivers from that thought !

Blasphamy!!!

Ommagord!

What would we do?

OOOh…

Josh

we might actualy do some work he he

…then I would have continued to feel isolated as a foam and fibreglass fetish freak who didnt know there was a greater community of incredibly creative, similar minded designers who revel in the thrill of collaboration, conjecture, design, creation, construction and the riding of vehicles of the most indescribeable joy.

Swaylocks has brought a certain meaning to decades of my isolated study.

The value of Swaylocks is my feeling of acceptance.

And thats valuable for amateurs who toil in secret…

SF.

I decided I would watch way more internet porn than I already do. you see when online I run through a list of sites and when I have nothing left to do I begin wasting time on fake boobs.

Howzit Herb, First I would never have known you or been able to pass on what I know about building boards. We are some of the luckiest people on the earth and I want to thank Mike for making it all happen.Aloha,Kokua

I shaped my first board before Sways. I guess I would still be fumbling along at my own pace. This is the first place I go to in the morning and usually the last place at night.

…very difficult for a rookie to craft and finish a very good quality surfboard without experience and tips…

rookie´s heaven

I would probably be a frustrated beginner surfer on a minimal, or struggling on a shortboard that was too small for me, suggested by the totally gnarly 50kg 16 year old surfer dude in the “cool” surf shop, that sold 95% t shirts, and 100 dollar board shorts, and 5% $400 shortboards made of green foam, and covered in one whole layer of 4oz cloth!!!.

I just finished shaping my third board, and have two glassed, without all the info from reading all the forums I would probably still be dreaming about shaping a board. Thanks for all the help.

Who’s Herb Spitzer?

That’s what it would be like… )-;

If swaylox never existed

we may have met outside a dime store

at the machine dispensing boston beans candy

and passed without ever making the connection thet we have so

much in common and that we are swimmers in love with the

experiential world revealing it self to only us between

waves and handmade boards…

the boston beans machine gave more than any other gum machine

Swaylocks is the boston beans machine.

to some thet machine never existed.

some don’t know

bout swaylox.

…ambrose…

to them it dont exist.

I heard thet tree fellin

And I never took philosophy 100

What if Swaylocks Never Exsisted ?

No flow of information.

Then the mystical zen guru commercial shaper mystique, as portraid by the mags, would live on. Thousands upon thousands would continue to be duped.

20 years ago if you would have told one of the old salt shapers that you were going to shape & glass your first board that would be as good or potentially better than one of theirs, they would have laughed you right out of the shop.

I’ve seen a bunch here.

If Swaylocks never existed, you’d still be trying to figure out fin placement on your 200th board.

Most likely some other swaylock would have started a forum. But nonetheless, the age of internet forums has changed the world immensly. Recently I found snowboard and ski building websites with communities similar to swaylocks. Apparently it is a sign of the times to get together whilst being very much separated …

Great stuff…

Yeah, right! As if.

Ride on, Tom

i’d like to echo Kokua and shout a big THANKS MIKE!

i’d still be in the dark about the vast erray of surf craft that are

being used…

“you mean 6’2” x 18 1/2" X 2 1/4" isn’t my only option?"

sways and the people on sways have truly opened my eyes.

also, i’ve made a few friends via sways that i truly value. swayfolks

are good people. always helpful, generous, and full of wisdom.

also, this seems appropriate here http://swaylocks.com/keep_sways_alive.html

I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing right now…waiting to flip and lam the deck of my second board.

Guys like Herb, Greg L, Kokua, Hicksy, Resinhead, snjsurfer, Benny and many others would not have influenced my board making knowledge and abilities, although, they still wouldn’t have a clue of who I was

I’d still be thinking that making my own boards was a pipe dream. Thank you Swaylocks!!!

Ken

Quite literally I don’t think I would still be involved with surfing.

Overstated? No. It’s easy to think yourself into mental jails. The Blue Crush sent so many people crashing into the surf that I’ve basically lost sight of the few stragglers who kept on surfing through the years alongside me. I know where they live, we communicate once in a while, but time changes things and then taking a direct hit by a cultural tsunami…that’s why sometimes whole cities, whole societies vanish.

Man oh man…I don’t need to fit into anything, I don’t want some kind of validation as being a “Surfer”, but I do appreciate knowing there are other people out there who care about surfing as much as I do. Via the disembodied nature of the internet we get past time, space, distance, age, and personal econmics to connect with others. Just knowing there are a few out there is enough…to realize that there are more than a few is heartening.
