What is a Vee deck?

Guys, I’m new. I’ve read for months but thisis my first post. Can you tell me what a v deck is, or vee deck?

that’s classified information

Anyone else? Our secret… I appreciate any help.

I’m only guessing, but in the late 60’s I would take a saw to the deck and cut from the mid rail line to the top of the stringer producing a board with a low early down rail and some float, Liddle called ‘em “Razorblades”. However painful to paddle. Morey Pope came up with the “Camel” pretty much the same idea only comfortable.

So me I’m thinkin’ a “vee deck” is just that, mass in the middle tapering down to the rail.

I've only seen it used on paddleboards... to quickly shed any water that comes over the top.

Googled this.... pretty ugly.

That’s about the only reason I could see for doing it. Pretty useless, otherwise.

Flash back! but the rails are killer…

Actually, it’s a term for a variation on dome decks that concentrates just a little extra thickness right on the center. Not really a true V with flat panels. Normally used on thin hpsb which nobody on here likes lol.

Whoa! I didn’t know Stevie Wonder was a shaper too.

My eyes! My eyes!

It’s gunna be hard to get that out of my head.

Some people call that a high stringer.

The vee deck is not truly a vee but a concentration of volume to the center of the board allowing thinner rails with increased center thickness.  I use this design on larger short boards as it allows the rail foil to be finer but keeps a fair ammount of volume directly in the center of the board.  The result is great paddle power and increased on rail performance.  As earlier mentioned, the vee is not a completely flat panel but is gently blended.  Too much high point and your sternum will ache,  too little and you essentially have a dome deck with pinched rails.  One other drawback, as the foam is compressed through use the vee becomes more pronounced so blending to foam in the tail is essential.
