what is going on with APS3000?

The Bird came back you should have seen him, totally empty, not one more s…n.

Ah well, that’s fine as he is young, hope he uses protection or he is dumb.

The friends made progress, so I am told, they found a bunch of whom they were fond.

They got a direction, they might be close, up is the ante and up is the hope.

Those guys were great and very involved, a helping hand when needed most.

As long as we find people like that, we will have hope and an end to the quest.

Long was the walk along the river, many bottles part of the quiver.

The red stuff they drink, it gives them strength, all that is needed in liquid form.

Up the river, around the bent till they arrive in the city of gloom.

Some went straight to the Mill of Red, looking for comfort and company in bed.

But many went straight to end the quest, they are the real good, the very best.

They found a good one but he was not alone, they take them both to not miss out.

Its father and son and the powers might cross, whatever it takes to heal the boss.

Back in the country of the boxing deer, very soon they will be here.

Already they dragged the King on dry land, the kissing will start, the drama will end.

There they go, the lips do meet, action is not, we are deceived. All start to cry, the end of hope, shattered the dream, its over now.

The mood is dark, the end seems near, we all will loose, quick the last beer.

And as we drink and wait for the end, all of a sudden a motion of wind. Call it the biggest fart of all, it came from the King, was stored for too long

And slowly he rises the sword in hand, they Galls were the magic ones, lucky end…

There is a chance that all will survive, surfers will love it that’s no surprise.

The Bird of Truth is totally buggerd, lucky he is as its time for rest. They clean the palace, the blood stains will go, I can’t believe it, it looks all go.

Women and children come out of their hiding, back come the smiles, back comes the pride.

The wizard gets an extra cheque, hopefully we will never need him back.

And so ends the story I have to tell, how glad I am - this was hell.

The king is back and all is good, never despair, don’t hide in the wood.

It was our right to freely design, it will stay for ever the promise is mine. That was the quest and it is fullfilled.

In every word there was real meaning needs time to get it, so wait and learn.

You will hear it all from the horses mouth, I am willing today to do that oath.

Thank you for staying with me this long, the elders will come and take it on.

hello Paul,

I totally understand you and any action you must take. You do a job as a moderator and you do in general a great job as such. I respect any descission you make even I am a King.

This was a very important thread for surfing and has been ended and confirmed by Midget Bernhard Farrelly (several times surfing world champion).

It was my aim and goal to secure the free APS3000 program for the surfing community, I have no commercial interest (I am not a very commercial person at all and you can find much proof of that) but I created the APS3000 and the software is based on my ideas and design.

It was always my wish and dream that it should be freely available and separate from the commenrcial version that drives machines, I started the idea and it was very well received. I have countless emails confirming that.

As I found out that my project was to be hijacked, I worried about many things but I needed to secure that APS3000 stays freely available to all. It may disappear of the for net a couple of days but the promise was made and I am known for keeping my promises.

The opposite party has prooven an utter idiot trying to take over something they do not own. Its like me going to Microsoft and telling Bill to stay home. Weird to be precise.

After I was aware of the support I have, I collected the courage to develop this plan and it will work. I may even have a chance and enough power to get the updated version freely available and not internet connected, its up to Ralph.

The messenger is dead, the little devil. It was actually my little boy who did proof read and press the button, never me. The cane toad was real and very smelly and bit by bit you will understand every verse. you may have to translate it in your language and some things will be hard to understand or not translateable at all, but over time this story will be told and explained. And oh yes, its most certainly surf related and word for word to the topic (exept part of the bird as he was out of control).

In the future, the APS3000 will come with Shape 3D, a program made by the french programmer Emmanuel and his son Thomas Vilmin in Paris. (the Mill of Red refers to the Moulin Rouge, you know the place when you were in Paris). We are an old team that goes back to the last millenium and it was Emmanuel who offered his help right away. The program now is quite good but it has also an import for files created in the free APS3000 version. This means, every surfer in the world can create designs in the free version of APS3000 and those files can be imported and processed into Shape 3D. Voila, the two frogs father and son.

But I went even much further. I offered Emmanuel to buy the standard version for free distribution on the net, like APS3000, so every surfer can freely download it. You will be asked to donate some money to a list of charities, but that is no must and to the individual’s choice. I like the idea and I am sure you like it too. The french will decide and I have the money ready.

The thread has been watched by the great in the surf industry and created enormous interest. Magazines knock the door and many people are behind me. I am known, they trust me and they know I do not abuse the power they give me.

I will have a glass of red wine, the tamtam will come and we will see. This is part of history and I hope all that comes out of it is good. Swaylocks has made me who I am, Swaylocks (and the many people who are Swaylocks) has supported my case, without them it would have never started. I only did the task, the direction came from them. They are Swaylocks and I am super proud of being part of Swaylocks and the spirit it represents.

Hello Paul,

you have shut down a beautiful thread, stating it is not surf design related.

How wrong you are and I am under the impression you may not have read it or not invested the necessary thought to make the connection. Do you really think Midget Farrely would place a comment like “not hiijacked!” without being 100% sure? How will the story ever be understood when you restrain people from commenting, a process necessary to understand all this in its full complexity and interconnection? Most everything in the Story of the King is surf design related and related to the people who represent surfboard design today.

I will give you a little bit of help, I want you to understand and I want you to respet my reasons to not come out in the open with a straight in your face attitude. The Story of the King gives every reader (most of them Swaylockers but that will change and evolve too) the possibility to place himself, to see where he stands and grow from there. Wisdom can not be taught, it grows out of experience and thoughts. Think and you will understand the bible would say.

And how can a beautiful story with a happy ending ever be wrong? I will give you now some help understanding the last chapter, make it easy (and take a bit of the fun away) and if needed, I will comment the other parts too (boring)…

The Bird came back you should have seen him, totally empty, not one more s…n.

I agree, a bit off track but explains the communication difficulties as well as the culture of the surfing nation France.

Ah well, that’s fine as he is young, hope he uses protection or he is dumb.

General advice, certainly good for Swaylockers too and it comes from a man with experience.

The friends made progress, so I am told, they found a bunch of whom they were fond.

They got a direction, they might be close, up is the ante and up is the hope.

Those guys were great and very involved, a helping hand when needed most.

As long as we find people like that, we will have hope and an end to the quest.

This refers to the people of Swaylocks who actively supported me.

Long was the walk along the river, many bottles part of the quiver.

The plan took quite a while to develop and red wine was consumed…

The red stuff they drink, it gives them strength, all that is needed in liquid form.

Up the river, around the bent till they arrive in the city of gloom.

Paris along “La Seine”, what else

Some went straight to the Mill of Red, looking for comfort and company in bed.

You do not know the Moilin Rouge and the possibilities there? The weak stray… but this part refers more to the readers

who did not put enough energy in to understand the story and gave up on the way, doing “something” else instead.

But many went straight to end the quest, they are the real good, the very best.

They found a good one but he was not alone, they take them both to not miss out.

This refers to Emmanuel and Thomas Vilmin, the men behind Shape 3D. Shape 3D now together with APS3000 is the pinacle of surfboard design, a pinacle created with this story.

Its father and son and the powers might cross, whatever it takes to heal the boss.

The APS3000 project must survive in its original spirit, hope you know what that means, otherwise find the truth in the past.

Back in the country of the boxing deer, very soon they will be here.

The boxing deer is the kangaroo so the country must be … yes, the surfing nation Australia. You got that right even it was a tough one.

Already they dragged the King on dry land, the kissing will start, the drama will end.

Remember the Frog King? If not, you will find the story in your local library.

There they go, the lips do meet, action is not, we are deceived. All start to cry, the end of hope, shattered the dream, its over now.

It was not something that could be decided in an instant as there are so many things involved. Even now I am not perfectly sure of the impact it will have as it changes the world of surfboard design completely. So care needed to be taken.

The mood is dark, the end seems near, we all will loose, quick the last beer.

More talk, discussion, opinion, brainstorm, rethink… a bit philosophical…

And as we drink and wait for the end, all of a sudden a motion of wind. Call it the biggest fart of all, it came from the King, was stored for too long.

That’s often how great ideas are born, don’t you agree?

And slowly he rises the sword in hand, they Galls were the magic ones, lucky end…

Shape 3D was the solution as it can import APS3000 files as well as DSD files and further process. The sky opens up for surfboard design, borders disappear and the free version of APS3000 makes more sense than ever.

There is a chance that all will survive, surfers will love it that’s no surprise.

Nothing will change for the masses, the free APS3000 program still can be used in the future. Great news for surfboard design, don’t you think so?

The Bird of Truth is totally buggerd, lucky he is as its time for rest. They clean the palace, the blood stains will go, I can’t believe it, it looks all go.

The new beginning of surfboard design is prepared in a clean palace without negative vibes it will start.

Women and children come out of their hiding, back come the smiles, back comes the pride.

This refers to the APS3000 users in general, the amateurs (most of them Swaylockers) who got scared and started to lock down their computers.

The wizard gets an extra cheque, hopefully we will never need him back.

The wizzard represents the lawyers who were needed in this case. They were actually 2 but I wanted to keep the story simple.

And so ends the story I have to tell, how glad I am - this was hell.

It really was hell, all the photo shoots, make up sessions, screaming director, the really real and smelly cane toad, two days in the “Liquid of Life”…

The king is back and all is good, never despair, don’t hide in the wood.

This should encourage people to stand up and defend what is theirs. Many did, I got so much mail and so many calls

It was our right to freely design, it will stay for ever the promise is mine. That was the quest and it is fullfilled.

Easy to understand. With the rise of the King the prophecy will come true. The prophecy was surf design related, remember?

In every word there was real meaning needs time to get it, so wait and learn.

The smarter the quicker. So some need to be a bit patient. The Lama for example represents my friend in Peru, the Hula Girl refers to my friend Kevin Ancell (see http://www.coastnews.com/art/surf_art/surf_trip.htm ), the Lion refers to my still quiet friend Nigel Semmens (Ocean Magic) and Pokemon refers to Chris Russel (APS3000 San Diego), the Moose refers to a friend who knows (a dangerous man with a gun), Jerry refers to my all friends in San Clemente (G J T H P), the hard to find Daruma refers to Toshi in Japan. There are so many more mentioned in the story, meanshapes, AKA, Matt Ambrose, Midget, Matt Kinoshita, Tim Carroll and so on, its theirs to find themselves as it is a tribute to all who supported me through this ordeal.

You will hear it all from the horses mouth, I am willing today to do that oath.

This refers to the truth that will be told. The real truth, the one and only truth told by the people who know

Thank you for staying with me this long, the elders will come and take it on.

The elders refers to the users of APS3000, most of them Swaylockers…

Now, just start the story from the beginning and open your mind. It is all and comletely and only surf design related and to the point to the topic.

Controversy is the compost for Thought.

I would like you to reopen the thread, starting with this letter and give the Swaylockers the chance to fully understand. I will keep it clean, my word.

Aloha Miki:

I read with interest your comments that shape3D was going to be the replacement software for the APS3000. I think it is a great piece of software but I have one major concern with it over the old free version of the APS3000 software which is the fact that shape3D does not run natively on an Apple Macintosh.

I realize for most people this is not a big deal but I know there are people out there that use these great machines, how will they do their design work?

Will they have to stick with the old software?

I actually like the shape3D better but I don’t want to ever have to buy a Windows machine. I can run it in an emulator but a native version would be really nice.

Anyway I would really appreciate hearing what the cross-platform strategy is for the software or is this something that is not even on the radar?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

-Robin

Well boys,

For a long time now I have read this forum but only now have I had the urge to become a member as I see the verbal bashing of a truely great and dedicated team player in the surfing community. Who you may ask? Yes Miki as we know him as. I can’t believe what is happening here and I can’t believe how stupid some people are. AS IF, JIMMY and MIKE RICKARD. Do you truely think and do you truely believe that WE in the community will take your wool and allow it to be put over our eyes? We may be shapers but we are not stupid? I have watched the evolution of these machines made in tweed heads right from the beginning (1980 or there abouts), and yes you may all ask WHO THE HELL AM I, that does not matter, I am a small time hand shaper in Brisbane, but I have the right to speak my mind. These machines are a product built up from the ground by Miki, all I can see here is two guy’s trying to publically fool the community into thinking that they have some sort of ownership in the whole thing. Yeah Right!!! I don’t know Mike Rickard, and I have only heard of Jimmy Freeze through this forum and a few of my friends, but, I don’t need to in order to see right through this situation. I myself raise my glass to MIKI and urge him to keep up the fight and I urge all of you out there to not be fooled by these dreamers and time wasters. The APS3000 project is the best CNC shaping machine out there IMO and well priced too. I have met MIKI on a number of occasions and it is easy to tell that GREED is something that does not become him, rather, he has a giving nature. These two other bozo’s, however, are trying to take something they don’t own. I think there is a definite element of GREED going on there, don’t you think? Lets say, hypathetically (as it won’t happen), that the APS3000 was “stolen” 'Oops, should I have said that? What will happen to the price of the machine? I think I know! Bang! Sky High!

Get behind MIKI, he is the future of APS3000 and he will rise from this victorious. And by the way, no more knives in the back, if you can’t say it publically, then don’t say it all.

Scott

will tell Miki, interesting…

This is an interesting question and in all the talk and planning there was never a thought about it. Maybe not enough red wine…

Basically, the free APS3000 program is written in Java and can be used cross platform from Windows to Mac to Linux. Shape 3D however is written in C++ and is as such limited to the Windows platform, except now with the new Intel Macs and Bootcamp it will most likely run on those Macs too. Will ask Emmanuel to confirm.

But why do you want to change? No need, do as before, use the program as nothing and nobody can stop you. It was given to you for free and that is that. Read the agreement you accepted when you downloaded it… but…

…as this drama unfolded, I got countless phone calls from people who wanted to provide the program over the internet to those in need or in case something bad happens with the program while it automatically downloads an update. I was told that it was possible to download the program without accepting any agreement or ticking any box. I was given instructions, I tried as I was told and yes, that rumor is true. Karma you may say.

The free APS3000 program as is has everything you need and many people said that anything more makes it only more complex, not better. So design your boards on your Apple as the file is compatible with the Windows file and yes, they both can if wanted be imported into Shape 3D for further processing or manipulation, machining and so on.

I communicate in the moment with Ralph about publishing the upgraded program, the version we last worked on together. I see a good change for this to actually happen as the project for him was the same as for me. Heart and Soul.

miki

Having migrated from APS3000 to Shape3D, I see that APS3000 slices import incorrectly if there is no rail midpoint defined in APS3000. I’m not trying to get into a technical discussion - just seems an appropriate place to warn anyone making the crossover. Add the mid rail point in APS3000 and everything should be fine.

My understanding is that APS3000 machines will not (and never will) accept any form of input files but APS3000, whereas others will accept a wide variety of inputs. Is this likely to change?

Absolutelly correct. Those little things we will easily be able to work out here, what is Swalocks good for?

Adding a rail point is super easy as the APS3000 program already provides for it. most boards are already designed “right”, so no problem there. And keep in mind, that only needs to be done to get the optimum machine output. Already Shape 3D gives you a warning when the problem arises as the program can see it.

I look forward to work with Thomas and you (the Elders) on those issues.

In the near future, APS3000 machines will be able to cut APS3000 files, Shape3D files as well as DSD files. The prophecy will come true as I promissed.

you are not getting are you little man,

you have treated enough people badly, now you have a group of people wishing the absolute worst for you, smiling i will be i feel sooner than later.

It’s just another case of a “I am the smartest man in the room” , so good luck with the bi-polar medication and Harvey Norman is hiring.

Aloha Miki

Sorry to hear about the troubles that have befallen you. Many years ago Bev Morgan gave me some great advice on partnerships and I have followed his instruction and saved myself untold grief over the years. I hope things will go better for you this next time around.

Like “HandShaper” (Robin) I too am a Macintosh user. My sole interest in the APS3000 was due to the fact that it would run natively on a Mac.

Didn’t someone on Swaylocks just recently say that they were developing an open source surfboard design program in Java? Sounds like a perfect match for you Miki…

Not that it matters to me…since you guys refused to sell me a machine when I was shopping.

yes, BB, have looked into that and checked it out. Its still very much in the beginning. Open source is an interesting concept as it collects ideas from every corner. But I can not really see the need for a new start. If it is a new start to go new ways that are superior in some form it may make sense. But the success of the APS3000 software is because of its simplicity. Less is more in this case.

There are more alternatives out there but I decided for various reasons for Shape 3D. The deckscurve problem, my point of critic in the past, has been fixed in the newest version, its fully developped, widely used and fully supported. Having a mature program that does not need much of my input/time was of great importance. Together with the fact that I gave away today the machine production part of my business as well as my Gold Coast shaping studio allows me to better concentrate on world wide customer support from now on. So, we may meet after all…

miki

Aloha Miki:

The fact that shape3D is written in C++ would actually make it very easy to port it to the Mac. I’m actually a programmer as well as a shaper and could easily port a bunch of C++ code from Windows to the Mac.

The primary part that would have to be ported would be the user interface. From what I have seen of the shape3D user interface this would be relatively straightforward because most of the user inteface is very simple. All of the real complexity is in the actual shape manipulation portion of the application and this really has nothing to do with the actual Windows user experience.

So the only porting problems might be caused if the code is using a bunch of Microsoft only technologies like Direct X for the graphics. If this is the case it would first have to be ported to OpenGL to make it more portable. If it is already using OpenGL then that would be even easier.

I think shape3D would really shine on a Mac!

Let me know if the developers are interested in considering a port I’d be willing to consider helping - no charge!

It’s obvious that this situation is clearly not simple and that Legal action could be occurring soon…

Can you explain exactly why you chose to reply in this manner to my post. All I was offering to do was help port shape3D to the Mac in order to benefit any Mac users of the software.

I thought this was the spirit of Swaylock’s to help each other.

I think you might want to reread my post there was nothing slanderous or obnoxious about it.

Or were you simply using my post as a jumping point into the thread? If that is the case I don’t appreciate being associated with inapproriate behavior on the list, it would have been much more appropriate to respond to the post that offended you, thereby saving innocent bystanders!
