what is going on with APS3000?

you are not getting are you little man,

you have treated enough people badly, now you have a group of people wishing the absolute worst for you, smiling i will be i feel sooner than later.

It’s just another case of a “I am the smartest man in the room” , so good luck with the bi-polar medication and Harvey Norman is hiring.

Does anyone give english lessons out there? I think this poor chap in the quote needs some lessons! If anyone could recommend a good “LIFE” supplier out there please let him know so he can go and get one.

Miki, I can already see you laughing at comments like these. Let me tell you all, posts like the one above might make the guy who wrote it feel better, but to the rest of us, NO IMPACT DUDE, we laugh at you, not with you.

I just designed my first board with the aps3000 software and was very impressed with its simplicity and the board turned out just gorgeous. I am just amazed to have stumbled across this discussion and hear a little bit of the backstory. All I know is that the aps3000 allowed me (a young eager backyard shaper) to execute my design vision with the end result being on par with any surfboard producer in the world, no matter how deep their pockets. There is something to be said for the way in which the playing field (in my eyes) has been leveled by the aps3000. long may it live.

Does anyone know the details of the file format for the APS3000? A better question, is anyone willing to share this info? I’m interested in finding the centroid of sections and also the moment of inertia for each rail slice. Counting squares on graph paper is less than appealing. Maybe this stuff could be added to the software. If the software can calculate the foam voume in ml, than these other calcs shouldn’t be too difficult either.

Not that it matters to me…since you guys refused to sell me a machine when I was shopping.

Hey, I’m in good company… They turned me down too!

Aloha CarveNalu

Maybe that makes us BAD company! And Proud of it!

Seems a weird policy they have, to happily sell to people who install APS3000 machines in their illegal backyard garage shops… and then won’t sell to people who have full fledged legal facilities in the very same towns!

But then… I have learned long ago how whacky the surfboard industry is and don’t take it personal, though sometimes it can sure feel that way.

I’m interested in seeing how one of these machines work…

Anyone got a pic or video of it operating???

Excellent!!! Thanks for that Scot…

still on the fence with this one, but i have seen one in action, and i gotta tell ya, it’s pretty awesome-almost flawless.saw three baords of similar design, but of different lengths get milled the other day.pretty amazing.started with an 8 footer, which looked awesome, then morped it, via computer and the shaper’s expertise, into an 8’8" and 9’. pretty damn near spot-on. what i see it does is save time, and money.eg, like the 8’ but want to go longer, hand shape might get it the first time, or maybe not 'till the third time, which means money spent on blanks, shape job and glassing.hate to say it, but the machine gets it pretty damn near right where that modification should be without the extra expense. all it takes is the shaper’s knowledge and eye, and about 15-30 minutes on the computer making the needed adjustments… i have sen other computer shaped blanks from varoius machines and in my opinion, this one is above and beyond the best…the mind that developed this machine is, well, from an engineering standpoint, on another level.i’m still an advocate of good 'ol handshape soul, but if ya got a magic board that wants to be replicated, this machine will not let you down…

This post is to confirm that this image created by Kevin Ancel for Michael Langenbach is for the sole use of Michael Langenbach, so to prevent any misuse of this image.

                                                                       Kevin Ancel

Why???

Is there a problem, or is this something that needs addressing…

Miki, does this mean the end to your involment at your old factory cutting centre? will the website for aps3000 needs some updating too?

The fileformat is quite simple, just look at the fileformat in notepad and you can figure it out. All the numbers are coordinates for bezier path in metric for profiles, template and slices. I have made java code to read it, it’s been provided to the boardcad project.

For those of you that are worried about the APS3000 program being changed over the net into something unusable, make sure you back up the .jar files for APS3000. That way if the program is altered you can restore the old files and still use them, just make sure the program is not allowed to connect to the net by then(either by using a software firewall or just unplugging the network cable when you use it.)

Håvard

Haarvard,

where are the .jars usually installed?

Cant seem to find anything aps related exept the start icon.

cheers,

Hi Lads,

For all those interested, I was searching for some APS answers to strenghten my own views in my own mind and low and behold, I came across this. For all of you who are presently wondering “WHO IS” and “WHO WILL REMAIN TO BE” the man behind the APS3000 project, then you may find the following link very interesting reading.

I’m way out of the loop but it sure seems to me that if they have “irreconcilable differences” with the inventor and patent holder for the machine, and no longer want to work with the guy most people praise for his expertise, that wouldn’t it be better to get busy inventing and patenting their own damn machine? I think Jimmy needs to post more of a statement than the one on page 1.

Best of luck to Miki!

Technically speaking, Miki is the patent holder in Australia; his patent application to the USPTO is pending. Nevertheless, since he was was granted a patent in AU the odds of him receiving a patent from the USPTO are good–and your advice appropriate.

mtb

Scot,

The following will lead you to the source of the files

right click on the shortcut, choose properties and you find target and target location

Hope this helps
