what is the best Router for future fin system

Hello all!

I am new to shaping and I can’t decide what type of Fin system I want to use. I know I want to glass on my fins most of the time but I also want to learn to do FCS and Futures. I have a Ryobi TR45K laminate trimmer and would like to know if this trimmer will work with the futures installation kit.

Any help I could get would be appreciated.

BTW, I’ve been reading the threads and I have to say that I only hope I will be able to create a board as beautiful as some of the ones I’ve seen on here. it really is inspiring

Thanks,

Adam

Yes Adam, that will work for Futures.

The older jig was a capture plate that constrained the base of the laminate trimmer.

The newer one has a ‘doughnut’ fixture the trimmer base rides in, and this fixture

is constrained by a recessed aluminum plate. This method allow the laminate trimmer

to stay at a fixed depth for all the cuts (the doughnut is flipped for either a shallow/wide

cut or a narrow/deep one). Aluminum plate stays put the entire time.

The most important thing is to get a quality straight fluted carbide bit.

Thanks.

I’ll post pictures after it’s done!

How does the futures router works with the 8 1/2´´ box??

I need to buy a router and I´m interested in getting the future fin system instalation kit in a couple of weeks.

cheers

I got a 20$ harbor freight trim router, works good for Probox installs. Not sure how it would work for futures, just  as good I’d imagine.
