What is this stuff (UV-Cure Epoxy Putty) ?

I was under the impression that epoxy always needed two components to activate- be it the normal part a/part b liquids, or the traditional grey putty containing a part a outer layer and a barely sealed off part b inner layer. Poly resin can obviously go  catalyst (mekp) or uv. So… what is this stuff?

I repair a ton of eps/epoxy boards and I frequently get people who accidently use traditonal solarrez on eps and melt a cavity. Someone brought in a tube ( not actually solar rez brand, but labeled “epoxy” uv cure. Smelled like poly, looked like solar rez. What’s the deal? Thanks.

I’m guessing that stuff is a vinylester, which is still an EPS-hostile “ester” resin but which has an epoxy component that makes it stronger and more flexible than polyester.  It’s like 30% stronger than polyester and handles the same way.

There’s no need to guess.  It is what it says it is.  Been around for years.  Used to buy it at Fiberglass Hawaii on Maui.  It’s best use is emergency ding repair.  Once you used it to fill a hole or ding though it is hard to remove it for a more cosmetic permanent repair.  Don’t put it in your carry-on and try to get thru TSA.

McDing- so it’s actually some sort of UV-catalysted epoxy that is EPS safe? I don’t use this stuff myself, I just want to be able to make better recommendations to customers.

No one knows?

Yes it is epoxy putty.
