What kinda waves for 3 or 4 fins?

Lets say Kelly Slater rocks up to the beach with his Wizzard Sleeve under his arm. He looks out at the waves and decides to ride it as a quad. What does he see? If he decides to ride it as a thruster what do the waves look like?

I don’t know about Slater, but I would be looking at the pitch of the waves and where it sections, goes flat or pitches. The need for speed vs manouvereability in the pocket.

i used to only ride thrusters. my whole 19 some odd years of surfing.

lately, i've only been riding quads. or i should say 'quad' as my self built quad is the only board i have that's rideable right now.

it's 6'0" x 19"maybe x 2 1/4 ish. accidentally DEEP single concave. i'm 6' x 175lbs... rear fins aren't so much on the rails, more

centrally located. i can get exact #'s for you if you like... i've had it out in everything up to about head and a half and it goes

good. i'm really happy with it. i'm running Probox's with the Guy Takayama quads from Larry. i used to have 6* and 4* inserts front

and back respectively. the board was kinda tracky. didn't want to turn. i switched them out for 8* and 6* and the board just lit up.

that was key... i've found that surfing the quad is different from my thrusters (duh) in that i don't have to constantly pump for speed

it's more of a carvy feel. it's growing on me. i'm not really sure, given i had the choice between a quad or a thruster, which conditions

would better suit which design. standing on the tail produces a loose feeling that is different from standing on the tail of a thruster

but, i'm having a hard time describing it. not better or worse, just different.

but... i'm no Kelly Slater. i surf way better than him. i turned down that part in Baywatch before they offered it to him too. so take this

for what it's worth.

what if it was head high hollow beach break? 3 or 4 fins?
