what makes a board go fast?

OK, I’ve heard a-lot of theory from a-lot of people on this one. What will cause a particular board to move faster through the water than another? (Talking longboards here) I believe bottom contour is most important. & I am wondering if thickness is a factor, as I tend to keep a-lot of float in my shapes. Opinions anyone??

Opinions anyone?? No theory… the same speed factors apply (especially at lower velocities) no matter what the length: a concave bottom, thick and sharp square rails, massive overall volume, no rocker, a really wide template, extreme lightness and a minimal, very thin fin. Interestingly, the elements that contribute to control are generally the exact opposite in function. The great challenge facing designers and shapers is to blend all those raw, contrasting factors into a balance that`s both functional and feels good. Dale

A big shark heading in your direction.Herb

Opinions anyone?? Good take off position , timing, a low center of gravity, strong legs, and back

RED WITH FLAMES ON IT NOW WE ARE TALKING WARP SPEED

don’'t forget the black rails. we learned black rails are fastest at the Ponds speed trials back in the 80’s . The blackrailed “psychospear” beat all comers despite being built over night out of low tech polyester and clarkfoam. i will have to post a picture of the spear it is collecting dust in the loft .
