What to look for in a Glass House

Greetings all,

I’ve had the unique pleasure of tormenting my neighbors with my garage based surfboard manufacturing. I am ‘ahem’, fortunate enough to live next to the type that peeks over the fence at even a whisper of a hedge clipper. Sanding was the first to go due to unsightly dust in my neighbors pond. Luckily, the sanding division was moved to Mom’s place (the neighbors seem to be more tolerant) but I fear that before long I’ll wear out my welcome there as well.

I’ve been able to strategically glass (to avoid the smell) when the wind blows in the correct direction but I know it’s only a matter of time before I get a knock on the door from a City Code Enforcement officer.

As much as I hate to outsource a piece of my passion…can anyone recommend a Glassing shop in Orange County, CA (preferably, Costa Mesa)? I’d would also appreciate some ballpark price figures, expected turnaround time and any other tips that you may have.

Thanks for your input!

switch to epoxy glass and you have the stench problem solved. also lighter and stronger surfboards.

i dont know how to solve the sanding problem though, except for telling your neighbors to piss off.

I have a suggestion for you. Give Terry Price a call at Cerritos College - (562) 860-2451 Ext. 2927

He’s the director of the Composites Department there. He’ll let you glass and sand as much as you want. They even have a few painting booths where you could practically sand without a mask. I think Cerritos is fairly close to Costa Mesa.
