What volume epoxy filler coat do you use?

I was wondering what volumes do you use for the filler coat when using epoxy. I was looking through the archives and someone mentioned using about 12 to 15 fl oz for a 9’ board after converting this to metric (I had no idea how much a fl oz was)I was really surprised thats 350ml to 440ml I only use 200ml(6.7fl oz) for each side. Probably explains why in some spots it looks a bit rough with the glass pattern showing through.

I hate the idea of putting more on just to sand it off.

While I’m writing this I might as well add that to laminate 2x4oz cloth over bottom of 9’ balsa board I use 550ml (18.5fl oz) epoxy (wet layup not vacuum bagged on)

I’ve had the same ‘problem’ as well, using less than suggested epoxy for the sandcoat. As long as you don’t sand into the cloth, you’ve propably got enough sandcoat on. I think using 4oz leaves you with a little less rough weave showing than 6oz which cuts usage a good bit plus you never mentioned how wide the board is which also matters a great deal. Also, I guess the balsa doesn’t soak as much resin as EPS which is used with epoxy most of the time, maybe the lam resin covers the wave better then.

Good point 23" wide. In the past when I have laminated onto EPS just before lamminating I mixed up 100mls (per side) of resin with Qcell into a very very thick paste and squeeged this over the blank and this greatly reduced the amount of laminating resin.
