Herb Spitzer talked about creating a personal crossfire fish using 2 of his superchargers and 2 finlets against three fins. The question is where are the “M” finlets placed?
in front of the side fins containing the superchargers? or in the front of the back fin??
Also does the bottom design(concaves, double barrel, convex, flat, vee) affect the performance of these add-on fixes? Seems like the cant of these add-on’s would be impacted.
I’ve ridden many “speed” boards including a 6’8" rawson/davey miller minigun 5 fin bonzer, a 7’6" 6-channel and 8’0 hybrid longboard C5 and 6’9" Bullet C5 by George Ku, a great underground shaper here in hawaii. The 6’9" C5 was a full bore deep single concave through the entire bottom and still is the fastest board I’ve ever ridden. Unfortunately since none of these boards were built for me they were somewhat undervolumed and hard to catch waves.
My question is for all those who’ve supercharged/finlet-enhanced an existing board, does the board/bottom design make a difference on whether these work? Does the board have to be specifically built for supercharging/crossfiring?
I now have a used Terry Chung “fatgirl” design ( RE:The Shapemakers) with glass-on carbon fins that I’d like to turn the volume up a notch to 11 with these add-on finlets… What should I expect?
I also have a 6"8" Merrrick Flyer (light double barrel) plastic board and a 6"6" Brewer Retro Stinger (heavy single to double barrel) that I’d like to “enhance”.
Also I’m using the new Futures Vector 3/2 on the Brewer with a slight improvement in performance, would superchargers would with the Vectors?
Also would superchargers “improve” a 4 fin Gemini?
It seems that the biggest problem us older and heavier guys have is getting up to speed like the lighter young ones can back fin pump out of their 6’2" x 18.5" thrusters. Fishes and longoards are great for us older/heavier guys but there’s a big performance difference between those and a well designed hawaiian mini-gun thruster.
To me it’s all about speed with control the more speed you can get the more you can do and the less impact the waves or the crowd will have to your surfing.
Sorry that this turned out quite long in reading…
Mahalo in advance for your insights…
