Got some zippy little SUP’s finished just in time for summer fun.
10’ x 27.5 x 4.5" 1.5 lb. EPS woth a pvc stringer (shapes soo good), double 6 bottom, double 6 top with a 3/4 length deck patch. No scale, but they feel around 20.
5 fin setup, pushed to the rear. Leading edge starts at 16" up from tail.
Jus’ a lil’ vee
My fiancee is turning into quite the little standup chick, so here is her board.
9’6 x 27.25 x 4.37 Same build up schedule.
Shaping went the exact same for both. I hope to just give em’ a test run to see what I do and dont like, then get rid of them. I rode the 10’ today in knee to waist high SanO and it went soooooo fun. Really zippy down the line and redirects very well. Im already over the size though. My next one will have another 1/8 out of the thickness and a half an inch of the waist. Most likely will go down to a 9’8…
Got some logo’s put together. Artwork from my very talented brother…
The black inserts are footstrap plugs. Im hoping to try out a new handle for pulling it turtle style under bigger waves… we just need to get some!!!
Big mahalos to Ken at Segway, Blane at PSH for continued inspiration and support, Byron for the glassing
i need to get me a SUP for flat water paddling (with just the slightest chop), and for surfing on small days. any suggestions on dims?
you’ve turned into quite the SUP-master. and i really dig the logo. great stuff, man!
all my love to you, jami, and taj (even though i’ve never met the little bugger).
~ b.
p.s. – hoping to make my way back out west toward the end of the summer. in fact, i might stay awhile…like…forever. you know of any decent job openings?
even thought there were no waves, I took one of the lifeguard paddleboards(i am a guard) and a canoe paddle to give the paddling a try, it is awesome. Too bad my crew chief put the kabosh on it
Having just finished shaping an 11 foot “shortboard” for a friend, I know what you’re up against keeping that edge smooth on the rail crown. Yours look spot on. I finally gave up and just rounded mine off.
Yeah, I’m with you on the dragging…but I can just barely get my own arm around a 12’ softtop & its the same plug. I’m betting she can’t carry it without help - not because of the weight but her arm just isnt’ long enough.
And, its kind of nice to see a Hollywood-type without help.
How soon before she’s out at Malizoo?
Edit: Hey Allan, how does your fiancee carry the 27.25" wide board? Head? Hip?
Maybe Jennifer G could use some lessons…might be good money in it for you or your girl Or, you know, you could give her my number or something, maybe.
I wonder if Jennifer Garner on a SUP will have the same affect Liz Taylor had with puka shells in the mid to late 70’s? It made the puka shell craze go wild. Jennifer does look very good doing the stand up paddling!
Sorry, didn’t mean to dis’ the thread. Nice board. I haven’t been following the SUPs very closely but it looks like you’re taking a slightly shorter/wider approach. True? I was in American blanks getting my blank cut when Ken was laying out the stringer template for your SUPs. I wonder if this is the same one. Small world.
Hey Benny,
I’ve got an 11’2" that can be hard to handle on a long walk. I like carry it on the outside of my arm, palm out, with the other hand over the top. Kinda like carrying a door or sheet of plywood. Actually pretty easy but like I said, if cost is not object and it’s a pop-out, I guess you drag. Still, I can’t get over the drag.

Jami’s routine is this… paddle into the sand, board on the head, grab paddle and go. Same on the way in. Paddle floats next to her, head the board, pick it up and exit…
As for Mz. Garner if ya nasty, very cool to see SUP transcending the waterman guild. I hope to see it go past the fringe surf rider sport it is now to something similar to whitewater short boating. Not something everyone’s doing, but definetly big enough to get better rights and cooler tech…

Yeah, maybe. Im really just playing around alot, trying to figure out what I like. Its all so new and fresh. I dont really want to surf anything longer than 10 feet though. You just dont need it. I was in some pretty marginal crap today and catching tons of waves. I want shorter… we’ll see where it goes
As for the carrying thing, Im trying to figure out an insert to put in the middle of the board to get your hand into to make carrying easier. Maybe the next batch will just have more sailboard inserts and a strap…
Yo Alan, come by the shop with one of the boards and I’ll show you how to put those grab handles on. You can put one on the stringer dead center and carry the boards that way.
