What's the point?

What’s the point of the extreme pointy nose on some modern thrusters? There is so little foam or surface area there.

If you just cut off the nose of a pointy 7’0", made it a rounder beakier nosed 6’6", how would it ride different?

What would it then do worse?

It would require a little more effort on the part of the glasser.

Some say it’s psyhcological, other’s say it’s really functional.

Ever surfed in STRONG offshore winds with a spoon nosed board?

And every inch of that pixie nose can be used to push down on the front of the board to takeoff early…it allows you to paddle from slightly farther up on the board, to push the nose down.

It’s some extra swing weight, but very little.

It looks non West Oz!

But you don’t need the sharp point, of course.

Pointy noses look cool and thus facilitates selling boards.

I usually cut off about 3/4 inch to minimize potential injury.

Six inches off a 7’0 is a pretty big chunk and would probably be fine in average surf but likely affect performance in steeper surf.

Now if could just eliminate my pointy hair…
