Gosh thats a hard one…Let’s see… In no particular order here are the ones I always watch: Free Ride- This film “…broke down the doors.” Sea of Joy- Classic Wayne Lynch, the few rides of Rolf Aurness are gems. Tales from the Tube- Somewhat corny, great in focus footage of the period. Free and Easy- MacGillivray/Freeman’s longboard treasure. Adrift- The genius of Joel, whether in mush or perfect Pipe. Island Magic- Basic early 70’s North Shore, H-Bay, Maalaea. Surfers Journal Biographies: Gerry Lopez, BK, Shaun Tomson, MR North Shore- Actually there is a lot of truth to this movie. Ride the Wild Surf- After seeing this movie I wanted to be a surfer. Endless Summer- Truly a masterpiece. Blazing Boards- Chris Bystrom’s early 80’s surf video formula. Oh shucks… you said five didnt you?

In no particular order: North Shore- movie that got me surfing when I was 12…was it that long ago? Point Break- just classic cheese…you have to love it! Big Wednesday! Laird-he’s da man Rise and Shine-just different, like the wipe out section, dudes getting taken over the falls always puts a big smile on my face. The Search- first time I watched Tom Curren in video, the one footed/floater he lands is awesome in that!! High Volume-just watched it so many times as an aggro grom, one of the first videos I remember where people were doing big tails slides and airs, pumped me to go out and try 360 airs, resulting in the nice scar I have above my eye…ahhh the memories. Endless Summer I, II- of course! I have never been able to see five summer stories, but have heard alot about it. One day I will meet someone who owns it damnit!!!

Please add the hour-long PBS, “Surfing for Life” to your lists ! It’s a great documentary about surfers who are 60 and over, who still surf. (this will be most of us; no doubt!). It’s a beautiful piece of work, and ALL of you ought to check it out! BY THE WAY…do any of you fellow “geezers” remember the T.V. show, “Surf’s Up”, back in the sixties?..(getting those flashbacks, yet?). Speaking of flicks, I heard that there was a big budget movie in the works about Dewey Weber…what’s become of that? (I’m deadly serious, by the way…I think Ed Harris was one of the picks for lead). As far as “surfing” movies go, the sweetest ones are the ones on a loop “in my brain”…having been “on board” since '65! (“God, I love surfing!”…{corrupted from, “the Natural”}). Ae, Aloha No!..Tommy!

i caught most of that ‘surfing for life’. what a beautiful guy that woody is, what a life, and what an inspiring attitude and outlook. there was an article about him in the same longboard mag issue that included the mention of swaylock’s. i want be like woody when i grow up, if i’m that fortunate!

COSMIC CHILDREN>>> SURF RELATED 1. The only reason I would put anything here at all is because of the totally cheesy scene in POINT BREAK where the soaking wet naked tattooed meth whore with the automatic weapon bounces around…most of the current surf vids could use something similar

Surfers the Movie - Even though its a shameless advert. for Gotcha Dora surfing w/Martin Potter is cool. 5. Free Ride - To this day when I see that opening footage of MR at Honolua the hair on my neck stands up. One of the great down the line speed runs of all time.
