I’ve searched the archives - a lot of valuable stuff - but I can’t find where I can buy sealed bearings for the Hitachi P20SB. I’ve heard McMaster-Carr but I don’t know the part number either. Does anybody know:
• Sealed Bearings Part Number
• Website/Store to buy them
• Any write ups/tutorials on how to replace them
Thanks for any help.
I’m sure there are other places but here is one:

pretty sure if you search the archives you’ll find a “how I do it” post or thread…

I just replaced Hitachi bearings a couple months ago . I took the bearings out and took them to a local bearing supply store they cross referenced the numbers on my old bearings to their catalog. I had the option on open bearings, sealed bearings, made in Japan, made in China, or made in the USA. In this case I took the made in Japan sealed bearing which was the exact same as the Hitachi bearing. Ussually I choose made in the USA bearings. Interesting note is that in 45 years I have never had to replace a bearing made in the USA. Get 15 or more years out of Japan bearings, Bearings made in China I am lucky if I get 2 years. Allways deal with a bearing supply house and you have the options.
Unless you’re good at working on tools I’d have someone else do the replacement, most of the repair guys can steer you to a good choice of bearings. I used to request only German bearings. My long-time service guy talked me into going with Milwaukee probably 10 yrs ago, they’ve done very well (about 1000 hrs use/set). Not sure about current Milwaukees, though. I’d check where they’re made. The race to the bottom in tool quality is well underway.
The seats on P20 are touchy, don’t ever run a set of bearings too long when they start to go. Stop tool at first screech. If you overheat the bearing and warp the (plastic) seat the tool is screwed. Don’t ask me how I know this…
That said, the Cark-modified version is my favorite shortboard planer by a mile, Tens of thousands of boards on the things.
Thanks for the advice everybody!
