A new one would be nice but second hand a would be a bonus. Something simulair to a Milwaukee or a Makita 9227.
My guess is that there should be plenty around in France, Portugal or GB. I live in The Netherlands.

…hello Mook,
those are angular sander/polishers not orbital ones…
-I think that the 9227 are discontinued, but still you can find them, but are not more made in Japan (I guess), they are made in Brazil.
Ouwch yes angular. There’s one type of 9227 which is sold here: the CB. Not sure if there’s a big difference with the 9227CY beside the handle. The Milwaulkee being sold here is the AS 12 E ($460,-!!!). Not sure if its worth the money or the right tool for the job.
…the differences normally are in other hardware that come with the tool.
-the discontinued one is the 9207, that s what I have.
The 9227 is more light and the body is different somewhat similar to the Milwaukee.
The 9207 is more robust and excellent tool but the 9227 is more user friendly
I suggest to use the normal handle and not the U shaped one
—and here the cost is around 800D!
Dude!
Think about sanding pad size before buying one! 8inch is not 6inch
This Flex machine seems nice, Germany made, like the Bufo’s, must be great then?
Ø: 220 mm max for polishing
1.500 Watt
3,3 kg

ex vat 374 Euros : http://www.stonetech.nl/machines/schuurmachines-drooggebruik/flex-l-602-vv-beugel-set-1500-watt/
That’s quit something… german technology - I consider that cheap then!
I bought the 240V Makita 9227 late last year from toolstop.co.uk (http://www.toolstop.co.uk/makita-9227cb-7-180mm-sander-polisher-240v-p4048) and had it shipped to Australia. It cost me about $320AU including shipping, versus closer to $500AU if I’d bought it locally. And I was most surprised to see it was made in Japan. It’s my new favourite power tool!
As for the D-handle or the straight one, try both and make up your own mind. I personally perfer the D-handle, but reverb obviously doesn’t.

…so, in Aussie land there are no customs duties?
-with the U handle you have less control in some situations, more if the pad is super soft
Hey reverb, that’s right, no customs duties on items less than $1000AU. Apparently the cost of collecting would exceed the revenue gained, so with the strong Aussie dollar, it’s no surprise there has been a massive increase in online overseas purchases by Aussies. Another example, I bought a Moldex (sorry Resinhead) full-face respirator and cartridges from the USA shipped to my door for just over $100AU. To buy the exact same items locally was over $400! We’ve been gouged on price here for years, so it’s payback time!
I haven’t used the sander with the soft pad yet, so I’ll keep in mind what you’ve said about having less control.
Cheers
