I was wondering how to go about getting large (2’x8’) digital images on something like rice paper. On my future boards I’m planning on having some corecel on the deck. I would like to dress them up with large digital images (the size shouldn’t be a problem since I will vac them on with the outer skin), but I have no idea were I could get them made. At the US open I found a company that would make them for $100 or so, but thats too expensive for my budget. Any ideas?
dan… this is where mine come from for the last 5+ years… also nev and berts “amazing new digital graphic technology”
Dan,
If you can supply the rice paper that size, any sign/sticker printing shop should have the Roland printer or similar type to print it. I think the $100 is a resonable price unless you had the actual file to be printed. They also sell full length longboard art laminates for $60+. The selection is limited . Then the all time laminate is the shark deterrent laminate for the bottom of the board which I am not sure how much it is( I think $50). If there is a major glassing factory around you, call them and see what they have.
i was lucky enough to have a contact with a sign printing shop on LI, the guy just bought a top of the line computer and printer system. I asked him about putting something on surfboards, he said he could do it easy, just needed a photoshop file…I think he was planning on using silk screening, like snowboards or wakeboards would use…
Thanks to all for the input! I think that this is going to be a challenge to do it on the cheap. I think I’ll start checking out the local print shops.
