Where to get stringer for home made EPS board

I am building my first board out of home depot eps like others on swaylocks have done before. I have glued the sheets of eps together with epoxy and bent rocker into them. I went to home depot to get something to make a stringer out of but I could not find any wood that was the correct with. Can someone that has made one of these boards or a stringer please tell me where I can get wood to make a stringer. The closest option I can find is 1"x8"X8’ pine. Is it a bad idea to use pine. I’ve done some research and haven’t run across any boards that had a pine stringer. If I can’t find thinner wood is it possible to something 1" into the thinner size I need without messing it up?Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi rickdog81, I have made a few stringerless boards. The last one I madeI went for western cedar(home depo brand) used 1x8 and tried to rip it in half witch will be approx 3/8. However what I ended up using was a full 1" which is accually 3/4. It was my oppinion that it was light enough since the eps is so light anyways. Another option would be to buy it from a lumber yard have them rip it and then plan it smooth.

good luck.keith

Pine is fine, as Clark used to use it for stringers.

So is cloth, paper, your girfriends favorite ugly dress you don’t like, or any permeable material.

i used 1/4 inch ply board stuff from the depot. its only like ten bucks a sheet and you can build a lot of boards out of it. its 8 foot by 4 i have built 2 boards so far and have room for like 6 or 8 more i bet. they key is just to let the stringer set for a long enough time. i used some liquid nails wood glue and elmers and its stuck in there really good
